Doncaster Council are continuing to support Environment Agency with the repairs to the embankment at Ea Beck, Thorpe Marsh.

Successful temporary repair works have been completed this week, with further more permanent repair works planned over the next weeks. Due to low water levels, the water pumps have now been switched off – they will remain in place until next week due to the strong winds.

One road closure – at Thorpe Bank – remains in place.

The embankment will continue to be inspected regularly, and local residents will be informed of any major updates over the Christmas period.

Doncaster Council continues to provide support to the Environment Agency who are working proactively to reduce the risks associated with movement on the flood embankment at the Ea Beck, Thorpe Marsh.

Five high volume pumps have been deployed and continue to move water away from the Ea Beck to manage river levels.

Regular visual inspections are being carried out by EA teams and river level monitoring equipment is in place to alert flood incident duty teams of any further deterioration to keep residents and properties safe.

The EA and Danvm Drainage Commissioners are also proactively managing water levels in Thorpe Marsh Reservoir to create capacity. We have worked hard to support these efforts by enforcing road closures, preparing additional communications and have extensive contingency planning in place in conjunction with other partners.

Householders in nearby areas should remain vigilant and familiarise themselves with information, advice and guidance in case this situation does not improve.

This can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/check-if-youre-at-risk-of-flooding or check out the live flood warning map at https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/map

08/12/2023

Due to continued high levels of rainfall, Doncaster Council is working with the Environment Agency to manage water levels in the Ea Beck and River Don.

Operational work is currently being undertaken on the Thorpe Bank riverbank. This involves water pumping equipment which is present in the Almholme area to ease the pressure on the Ea Beck riverbank. Therefore, Thorpe Bank is closed to motorists from Thorpe Lane to Fordstead Lane.

Fordstead Lane is also closed between Thorpe Bank and Ea beck so please avoid the area and plan your journey accordingly.
