I’m Sharon and I joined My History in 2008 upon having relocated to South Yorkshire from East Anglia. In 2015 I was delighted to become one of the Directors here. I have had a long career working in office administration and accounts within many industries including 10 years in the Royal Navy.
I have been married for 9 years and I have two beautiful grownup Daughters of whom I am immensely proud, having pretty much raised them single handedly.
On joining the business, Tony insisted that I spent some time researching my own family history in order to understand the challenges faced by our customers. This has taken me on a wonderful journey of discovery. I was able to disprove many family myths as I still, at the time, had my Maternal Grandfather to quiz for information.
There is still one area of my genealogy that is causing me great difficulty. My late Mum was born in 1948 as a result of her Mum, my Nanna, being taken advantage of by a married Serviceman stationed in Felixstowe (or so the story goes). My Great-Nanna argued vehemently with the Vicar and Headteacher that my Nanna was not being sent away to have her child nor was any grandchild of hers being put up for adoption- what a woman!! Nobody ever said who my Mum’s biological Father was and sadly, my Mum passed away aged just 40 never knowing. From the moment I started my genealogy quest, I have strived to locate him but to no avail. Therefore, my brother and I have just taken a DNA test each in the hope that we may be able to finally unravel this mystery.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Deal of the Week changing today at 2pm. You have until 1:59 to take advantage of our current deal of 20% off Archive Medal Boxes.
Series 5 of A House Through Time returned to the BBC earlier this month and tomorrow tonight sees the 3rd episode of the current run....Two Cities at War. The episode features a young poet who takes to the skies as bombs rain down on London and in Berlin, one family attempts to flee the country as the persecution of Jewish people intensifies. Give it a watch and let us know what you think.

Have a great Sunday everyone - the sun is out what are your plans?
This tree was cut down in 1891, at the grand age of 1300 years. The circles within the tree, correlated with significant events that happened throughout the tree’s life.
I’m Julie and I have been employed by My History since October 2020. Before this I worked in the travel industry for 25 years. Covid put paid to my career and I took redundancy. I haven’t looked back but I do still love to travel.
I have been married to my husband for 30 years and we have 3 children and 2 beautiful Grandsons. Family is very important to me and I am lucky enough to still have both my parents whom I care for along with my two sisters.
I have recently started to trace my family history on my Father’s male side - he lost his mother and father very young and was raised by his elder sister. I have traced them back 5 generations to the Lincolnshire area - where as it happens both of my sons are now based in the RAF. His family moved to South Yorkshire for work in the steel industry in the early 1900’s and have remained.
As photographs were rare even in the 40’s I am still struggling to find the one thing I would dearly love which is a photograph of my Grandfather. Although he was in the Navy they did not automatically have photo ID and none of the wider family have any images either. My search goes on ……
‘I want to replace a lot of the memories I have of my Mum dying with something fresh and new’. What a profound moment from last night’s episode of DNA Journey with Ancestry. Sarah Parish lost her Mum to Dementia and her desire to replace those sad memories with something fresh really resonates with me having lost my Grandmother to the same horrible illness.
Have you uncovered fresh, new memories of a lost loved one? What did you think of last night’s episode.

Today feels like a make a nice cup of tea and take it back to bed kind of day. What do you think?
For me, however, it’s a make a cup of tea and get your big coat on kind of day. My son is playing football (cup final) and this football mummy needs to have him pitch side by 9:30!!
