Tomorrow is the start of pannage season in the New Forest. This is when the commoners who have the right to common of mast turn their pigs out on to the forest to gorge on the acorns and beech nuts which are toxic to the roaming ponies and cattle. Please keep your distance as these pannaging pigs often have inquisitive piglets with them, and sows can be very protective.
Pigs are clever animals and often try to outwit their owners when it is time to be brought back in from the forest. They can roam over large areas and sleep in muddy hollows at night. For this reason the owners tend to feed their foraging pigs daily to encourage them to stay local and to make their final return home simpler.
I love seeing these cheeky snorkers roaming in the forest, and it marks the beginning of my favourite time of year 🍂

A worthwhile and beautiful place to visit whilst you're in The New Forest is Exbury Gardens. It is a very dog friendly place and even has its own little steam train.
We went today with the dogs and had a lovely mooch, interspersed with lots of rest and relaxation in the shade 😴☺️🐶
We stopped on the drive home to say hello to the New Forest Ponies 🐎

The garden is looking lovely, even if so say so myself ☺️
