COVID-19

Regardless of the tier we may be in or even during full lockdown it is possible, and legal, to have your kitchen painted and do so safely.

Thomas & Lucia is a partnership between myself, Matthew Clayton and my wife Sue. We do not employ any staff. Currently, Sue works full time in horticulture elsewhere so I work on my own. The majority of my time is spent at my workshop is Sway. I only work on one kitchen at a time, and each kitchen takes about 2 weeks.

I am following the current government advice on social distancing and working from home wherever possible and will adopt any new guidelines as they may arise.

What this means in practice is as follows:

• Working from home

The vast majority of my work is carried out at my workshop where I work on my own and am effectively isolated from anybody else. Therefore ‘home’, in my case, includes my workshop.

• Social Distancing

Personally, my wife and I are practicing social distancing from family and friends and any during necessary interaction with the public e.g. shopping.

Where I must work on a customer’s site for the collecting of the doors/furniture, hand painting static items and delivery of furniture/reassembly of the kitchen, any interaction with the customer will be kept to a minimum and be conducted at a safe distance.

• Sanitation and Protection

As a painter frequent washing of hands has always been part of the job however, this has been increased to match the current best practice.

Gloves: I have always worked with gloves.

Quoting from the government guidelines:

Work carried out in people’s homes, for example by tradespeople carrying out repairs and maintenance, can continue, provided that the tradesperson is well and has no symptoms. Again, it will be important to ensure that Public Health England guidelines, including maintaining a 2 metre distance from any household occupants, are followed to ensure everyone’s safety.

It goes on to stipulate that if either the household is isolating due to infection or the tradesman has coronavirus symptoms then no work can be undertaken.

I therefore expect to continue providing services to current and future customers within the above scope and will adopt any new government issued stipulations.

It’s beginning to look a bit like Christmas come down and see my stand at Toad Hall in Wimborne.

Following my daughter’s example I am ditching the plastic filled teabags for loose tea and a spoon ..... just as quick as a tea bag .
I tried buying PG tips loose tea but it is unrecognisable as tea, just dust stuck together into granules so have opted for proper loose tea. Such a tiny step I know given the enormity of the problem but easy and delicious - butter next !
