Is Meta stepping back from news content? A recent report suggests so, revealing a 50% decline in Facebook referral traffic to publisher websites over the past year.

The data speaks volumes:

🔔 Facebook referrals to news sites plummeted by 58% since 2018.
🔔 Total referrals from Facebook dropped from 30% to 7% in the same period.
🔔 Smaller players feel the pinch most, witnessing significant declines in Facebook referrals

Further repercussions from this change will result in reducing political content reach and prioritising AI-recommended video updates over news posts.

What does this mean for social media? Less news and politics could lead to a more positive user experience, but it's a tough pill to swallow for publishers!

Meta just announced that Threads, its Twitter-like social app, has surpassed 150 million monthly active users! But here's the twist - Threads wasn't just created to rival Elon Musk's ventures, although that might be part of it….

Launched last July, Threads aimed to create a "positive and creative space" for users, inspired by the likes of Twitter. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg envisioned Threads as a platform for "more positive" public conversations compared to its counterparts.

In just two months, Threads gained an additional 20 million monthly active users, bringing its total to 150 million. While Elon Musk's X experiment faces stagnant growth, Threads is thriving and even outpacing X in daily active users in the U.S.
