I lift my eyes to the trees. Majestic canopy in city square, flourishing in a field hedge, thorn on a rocky outcrop. I shuffle leaves, pick fruit and plant acorns. But I like wood floors, beams in cathedrals and old ships. Forests are fought over and industrial logging endangers all life. Yet as biblical people met God under landmark trees, all creation meets heaven on the Cross. That tree of life, love, death and hope. Forever attractive to artists, trees yield new truths to science every day; their rings tell secrets of the long past; their roots talk along a web. Home to diverse creatures and, best of all, they capture carbon. Creator God, turn my awe for trees into respectful living.

Holy Spirit of God,
You promise to come to us in our need.
When we have been hurt and feel low,
when people take advantage of us for their own ends
it’s hard to know that you are there.
We don’t always know how to pray to you.
Help us to discover your presence in the pain and confusion.
Give us the hope that comes from realising that you know and understand us,
and that the deepest longings of our hearts
are an unspoken prayer that we might be renewed by your love,
and transformed by your grace.
Amen.

Lord of all, by your amazing grace you gift us with all that we need. We seek to depend on you, knowing your love is constant and new each and every day. We give you thanks this day for the surprising gifts that will meet us in the kindness of others. And, as your Spirit leads us, may we be an unexpected blessing – sharing Christ’s love with others in our actions, thoughts and words. For the coming of your kingdom we pray, in Jesus name. Amen.

Lord, you are always working even though we might not see it, in difficult times of suffering and pain, walking next to us. You are the light in the darkest of times; the hope when all is lost and the strength when we fall. Help us to trust in your plan and see your treasures in those around us. Amen.

Life is a community project - and we need you!
Come along on Saturday to see how you can get involved. This might be volunteering your time, making financial donations, telling your friends and neighbours about us, coming along to events we organise...
with us today.
When darkness fills our horizons, help us to remember what Jesus taught about the hidden treasures of God’s love – how a traveller to Jericho, left beaten unconscious by the roadside, was unexpectedly rescued by a marginalised stranger; how a son who had ruined his life was welcomed home through a parent’s unconditional love; and how a sheep, lost on a lonely hillside, was brought to safety by the faithful care of the shepherd. So may we, whatever our needs, find help and support – sometimes where we least expect – and when human resources fail, discover the riches of God’s grace and the depth of his love, holding us safe forever. Amen.

Bless all those who I meet today and those who will give me some part of themselves; their love, their knowledge, their wisdom and their grace. May I gladly receive the gifts of others today, letting my neighbours into my life and in doing so meet you, the God of all grace. Shape me, Holy God, in and through my neighbours this day. Surround us with your free and generous love. Amen.

God of invitation and welcome, for you to command me to love you and my neighbour seems a contradiction, for the very nature of love means it cannot be forced. Help me to hear the imperative in the context of your love for me, freely, graciously and abundantly offered. Through your Spirit may I choose to love you with my whole heart, soul and mind, and to seek to love all people as you love them. Give me the grace to live these two commandments of love day by day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thank you, God, for inviting me to share in your work: to love God, and to love my neighbour, as I am loved myself. Sometimes, the hardest part is to love myself. Your grace is beyond my capacity to imagine.
I diminish your love by my own false limits. I treat myself too harshly when your love treats me gently. Jesus, you invite me to love God, and to love my neighbour as I am loved myself. Such love will transform the world.
Set my heart on fire with love! Help me to respond to the greatest commandment! I dedicate myself to love God, and love my neighbours, and love myself, even as I am fully loved by you. Amen.

We believe that every living thing was created by you, God, and that you pronounced creation to be very good. You entrusted your creation to humankind, allowing plants and creatures to evolve and adapt over time in human care. Jesus, you instructed us to love God, and to love our neighbours, as much as we love ourselves. To fulfil that commandment effectively, we also need to care for the whole of creation, as all living things are dependent on one another for survival. We have lost our way and caused damage instead of love and care. Please forgive us and show us again how to love, to renew; to recreate the beauty and bounty of your world. Amen.

Today, Lord, I live in your Spirit,
You make life to shine.
As lungs take in air to sing
I walk filled in your Spirit,
The fruits of my hoping,
The fruits of my living.
Today, Lord, I live in your love –
love that will speak to others
With the sound of your grace,
Full of mercy and forgiveness,
Foundation of my faith,
The fruits of my living.
