Mamori Tai Shotokan Karate Scotland
Welcome to our Martial Arts School, the place where all ages can start a journey of personal growth
It's quite an honour and a great joy to be able to teach 3 generations of the same family. Scott Senior Scott Junior and his daughters. They are all certainly putting in the effort, and it's really showing.
Lacey and Lucy, or Lucy and Lacey. After a few years of teaching and training with them, it's still unclear which is which. They have often forgotten themselves. Both these girls have shown huge improvement in the last few months, and are really putting in 100% effort.
Sam. Not doing karate. We don't know what Sam was doing. We don't think Sam knows what he was doing. What we do know, is Sam is away to University, and we are all very proud of him. He will be missed, but we wish him all the best on his next stage of life.
Josh and Scott having some fun at great trip away for 18 of our members. The rain stayed off, and the sun came out. Beautiful place to visit.
Scott doing some kata at the beautiful putting his Tekki Shodan to the test on a very narrow bridge. Scott isn't the biggest fan of doing kata in front of people, so to do this with a crowd of 17 watching, was a huge leap forward for him and his confidence.
Josh showing off his and his black belt at the . Josh has worked so hard over the last few years, and this year his work has paid off, with earning his 1st Dan and getting Gold for kata at the Scottish Open. Really proud of him. His karate journey had really only just begun.
First 2 gold medals in their respective kata categories. Really proud of both.
They have worked so hard to achieve this, so very well deserved. And very proud.
Great afternoon at with lovely surroundings and could not have had a better day for it.
It's OK for some, travelling the world. But great to see that they took some Karate with them. Missing these 2 at classes, but great to know they are still thinking of everyone at the club while they are away.
Who can do a split? Apparently the gymnasts can easily do it it. Impressive.
One of our new students showing off her incredible flexibility. New kicker in the making.
modelling one of our new T-Shirts by next to our heavg bag thats away to take a beating as he does his kicks for the day.
Getting final bits finished for tomorrow's kick a thon. 40,000 kicks. That's a lot of kicks. But we can do it!
If you can donate, link in bio. If you can pop in and take part, I'll be there from 12.
There will be a couple other fundraising things to do, as well as tea/coffee and a wee tuck shop.
Every kick counts. Helping raise money for dojo equipment and a local diabetes charity.
Watch out tomorrow for updates.
Comments of encouragement for the students taking part much appreciated!
Great night tonight with a few new faces. All practicing kicks in preparation for our kick a thon on Monday. Aiming for a whopping 40,000 kicks.
Go fund me link in bio if you are able to donate.
Thanks to for the quick delivery of sparring gear. Made a birthday boys day. Gearing up like Iron Man and raring to go.
Had a great night last night working on Mawashi Geri on the new punch bag
Please note... Josh was not harmed... much.
Some of the kids showing off their flexibility at the Kirrie class. For some, the splits takes time and effort. For these ones... its just seems to be a natural ability. Not jealous.
How far can you get into a front or side split?
Congratulations to James. He arrived as a 1st Kyu a few years ago, and we had a lot of work to do. And boy has he put in the work! He's trained hard, listened and learned loads. We've had our ups and downs. But every time he's picked himself up (sometimes literally) and carried on. Huge congratulations.
You deserve the belt! But remember, the black belt isn't about what's around the waist, it's about what's in the head and the heart! Keep it up!
Use the link to donate if you'd like to help us raise money for equipment for the dojo and money towards tasyside diabetes. They help support lots of children and families living with type 1 diabetes. Any donation will greatfully received.
Many thanks.

On 1st April we will be doing our annual kick a thon. Raising money for dojo funds and a local diabetic charity. We will be aiming to do 40,000 kicks through out the day. Last year we achieved 26,000 kicks as a club. Our friends will be joining us this year.
Everyone should have a sponsor form by now. If you don't, please get one soon.
Every kick will count so we need all the support we can get.
New class started in Kirriemuir. Sunday morning 10am until 12noon in the Guide Hall. Great turn out to the first session. Worked on Kihon and some Kata, and of course everyone had a shot of breaking a board for the first time. Everyone worked really hard. Looking forward to our next session!
Some of us were able to join with for their squad training this morning. Working hard on Kata and Kumite. Great effort by everyone and looking forward to future training sessions together.
Why is looking like he was hit by a truck? Swipe right to find out.....
Thanks for speedy delivery of equipment to help him get here and for his amazing new belt. He's trained hard. Usually 5 sessions a week. Right through a pandemic. He deserves all the best things in life. He never gave up. Right to the last burpee.
Just want to remind everyone of this. I'm confident that all those grading will pass first try. That's why your grading. Remember, you've been grading every night since you started. You can do it! The grading day is just to showcase your ability. Nerves and silly mistakes happen. Don't worry about it. Turn up. Do your stuff. If you've only got 40% in the tank and you give it that 40% you've given 100% on the day. Proud of each and every one of you. The 5 Yr olds right up to the *cough* year olds.
New licence books. Looking nice.
Congratulations to this one for passing his grading tonight. Huge effort put in. Really proud of you, listening to feedback and putting into action and trying really hard. Well done.
He's a bit sweaty, but smashed his grading for 2nd Kyu today. Lots of Kihon, Kata and Bunkai. Grading finished with bag work, pad work and nice wee fitness circuit (Kumite and pairs work were completed during class time) 6 month wait to 1st Kyu will fly by. Lot of work to do between now and then. But he is really up to the task.
Rest of gradings happening during the week and next weekend.
Really happy for winning a fitness bundle from huge boost for him at the start of the year. Congratulations to everyone else that entered. Well done all!
Josh has been stretching. He says he's no closer to a split, but I see definite improvement. What do you think? These things take time and effort.
Arrived early to set up for a 1-1 session. The joy of the empty dojo, for me, is it's like a blank canvas. All that's needed is some inspiration and a bit of effort. Equipment is great. But often more can be achieved without it. Just the person and the mindset to work hard and improve. Do you prefer to train with, or without equipment? (Training with and without both have their place)
