I'm back! Yes, after what feels like an eternity of being ill, I'm finally back in the workshop. Still not feeling great, but needs must, and I have a mountain of work to be getting on with. Week 2 of my Beginners class and the students were learning all about annealing, how to texture metal, doming, more piercing, and how to make earring wires. It was a busy 3 hours. A wee video on how to create your own sanding sticks for jewellery making. Don't buy them just make them from a strip of wooden flat moulding you can get from a DIY store. Also once all the sanding paper has been used on the stick, simply just rip off all the remaining old sand paper and double sided and place fresh double sided back on the stick with fresh sandpaper and you are good to go again. Depending on the design, I sometimes mock up a silver version of an engagement ring to help clients decide on what they want and also to see what they would feel comfortable wearing. Not all designs lend themselves to be worn day in day out. They maybe look pretty, but are they practical? This is a biggish stone, so road testing it in a cheaper material helps the client see if the design works for them before committing to more expensive materials. This wee beaut has been getting road tested for a few weeks and now has the green light to go ahead in white gold and black emerald cut diamond. 💍Whats your stance on engagement rings? Coventional classic design or non conventional? I know what I prefer....non conventional all the way! I mean who dictates these things and says they need to look a certain way, or you need to spend X amount on them? Same with gemstones if diamonds are not your thing you do not need to have one. As far as I'm concerned it should be your own personal taste, mean something to you and most of all light you up everytime you wear it. Hi Folks How are you all doing? I hope you all had a lovely Festive break. Have you all started back yet or are you starting back on Monday like me? It’s been nice taking a wee break from social media lately. I do find it quite overwhelming at times. If only running a handmade jewellery business was just about making lovely shiny things!......I can but dream! Anyway my 1st proper post of 2023 I thought I’d share a wee pic of my lovely niece Rachel, aka Rassel Dazzels, with her new Flopsy bunny necklace I made her for her Christmas. Remember Flopsy? I shared a pic of him just before Christmas……oh and by they way I’ve been calling flopsy a he, when in actual fact old flopsy is a girl!
