2 cadets from the Angus and Dundee battalion had the amazing opportunity to represent the Scottish ACF at Athletics Nationals today and wow they absolutely smashed it!!
Ben Thomson won 4 gold medals:- 100m, 300m, long jump and relay.
Ryan Ferrier won 2 Silver medals for 200m and relay and a Bronze for 100m.
Massive congratulations to you both 👏.
So proud of the Angus and Dundee Battalion ACF who completed 2 and 3 star SQA qualifications during last weekend’s training. Our 4 star cadets started an introduction to leadership qualification. We also smashed through the 100 successful cadets achieving qualifications and we only started delivering in January. Onwards and upwards to many, many more cadets achieving a fantastic suite of qualifications during their time in the Army Cadets UK.
Last week SSI Robert Harkness was in Normandy to take part in the Le Tattoo De La Liberté with the RAF Central Scotland Pipes and Drums to celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the liberation of France.
What a superb achievement, well done 👏
Volunteer Week 3-9 June 2024
This week we celebrate 40 years of Volunteers’ Week. We are celebrating the amazing contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK. I don’t think I could let it pass without saying a huge ‘thank you’ for all the efforts our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers make for our cadets. Each one of you does what you can to help make a real difference to the lives of these young people. We know the impact that your effort has, helping them to learn new skills, to develop confidence and self-belief. Let’s never lose sight of that! So, again, a huge thank you to you all.
Colonel Scott Dunn
There is no one way to volunteer. Join us this in celebrating the diversity of volunteers and volunteering and let’s inspire someone new to volunteer! Find out more here: www.volunteersweek.scot
Today the Battalion attended the Eastern Primary School summer open day and what a day it turned out to be. The sun shone brightly and the event was busy from the moment it opened. Our axe throwing (velcro), bow and arrow stand as well as the obstacle course and recruitment caravan had a steady footfall. We are unsure at the moment of how much money we raised for the school charities but are confident we have definitely helped their funds. We also had a number of prospective cadets and adult volunteers come to the recruitment caravan for more information which was brilliant. What a perfect example of how the Angus and Dundee Battalion work with the community. We look forward to attending more community events in the future.
Our cadets were amazing and from the moment they entered through the gates of the school, the pipes started and the crowd went quiet. We had lots of super proud parents watching the performance and many of the visitors taking photos and videos. Our cadets performed with the greatest of professionalism. Huge well done. Thanks to the adult volunteers and cadets who came and helped set up and assist with the event. Finally and most importantly a huge thank you to the adult volunteers who co-ordinated and trained such an amazing drill team for their time and efforts that they put in to ensure our cadets were ready for the event. Kit was still being polished at midnight last night and they were back up at detachment at 6 am this morning to ensure everything was ready for our cadets.
Angus and Dundee Battalion will be attending the Eastern Primary School, Broughty Ferry Open day tomorrow, 1 June 2024 (11 am - 2 pm). The event will help raise funds for the school charities which in turn will help the school purchase items they need to improve the pupil experience.
Our amazing drill team who have been rehearsing hard over the last 7 weeks will be there, we also have cadets from the Grove detachment and a number of Adult Volunteers attending. Our recruitment caravan will be there displaying photographs from recent camps and events we have attended and we have lots of cool freebies to hand out, we are also running a number of great activities for the kids. Tayside Fire Brigade and RNLI will also be there.
Pop along and see us if you can, we would really appreciate your support.
Popped in tonight to the St Mary’s detachment where the amazing battalion drill team had a dress rehearsal and continued to work tirelessly with rehearsals.
Angus and Dundee Battalion were joined by cadets from Lothian and Borders ACF at the Royal Gun Salute followed by instruction and displays by members of the Regular and Reserve Army in Battle First Aid, Gunnery, Skill at Arms, Map and Compass. This was followed by a lunch and tour of the Castle.
