My first attempt at Japanese feathering lashes inspired by .uk 😍 absolutely obsessed with these and can’t wait to try more! These are super fine lashes used with the same technique as classics for a super soft glam! Thanks to my lovely gal .thompson for modelling for me ✨ (I used C curl lashes in 0.12 for this look)

My life roundup - April edition

This month brought some exciting new changes to work life and what an amazing month it’s been. I’ve officially taken on more roles within Tatti Lashes past just being their educator including joining the social girls team and working closely with the CEO’s to bring newness, exciting projects and more 🤐 to the pro side of Tatti Lashes. Ultimately a dream come true job!

So grateful to be chosen for this opportunity and for my clients who have been tremendously understanding in the changes to salon hours and while I settle into my new work routine 💗 you all know this means I will always be at the top of my game and bringing you the very best of what’s out there so I know you don’t mind but still a thank you for your continued support and forever hyping me up just feels right - you all rock!

I was asked to be one of The Lash Awards Board Members 🤩

Being recognised as an industry specialist and asked to help with the BIGGEST industry specific awards is a huge pinch me moment!

Alongside being a board member I am extremely proud to announce I am also the SPONSOR & JUDGE for the ‘Best Eyeliner Effect’ Award 🥇

I fell in love with the style hard and fast and it’s easy to see why! I truly feel 2024 we are entering our ‘clean girl era’ and sets like classics, Japanese feathering, natural volume, short wispy sets and eyeliner effect sets are going to be at the forefront and I have to admit it’s a refreshing change.

With eyeliner effect in particular I love how clean, minimalistic yet impactful this look is.

So excited to see all the work from talented last artists work within this category and if you haven’t entered The Lash Awards yet then girl what are you waiting for?

A post for my fellow queens in the industry regarding growing your socials.

Please for the love of god STOP BUYING FOLLOWERS.

These are all fake accounts that are not going to engage with your content. They are known as ghost followers and will actually harm your account.

Instagram knows if you have bought followers, use third party apps to track followers etc and will penalise your account for this.

This could result in you being shadow banned which means you won’t be able to post. It will also kill your reach, engagement and any growth for your account for months!

It is also really obvious that this is what you have done, the ratio between your follower count to engagement alone is enough for someone to tell, they can also tell from a quick look at who follows you and all they see is fake, foreign and faceless accounts with names like ‘yons7110’ it’s not impressive, it looks desperate and if your aim is to work with brands this is a HUGE 🚩🚩same from a client point of view too. I would trust a smaller account with good engagement I.e clients commenting and liking their posts sharing their work etc than an account with a huge following and zero engagement.

You would be better off spending the money you spent buying followers and doing a social media course. Or better yet find people like myself who don’t gate keep and offers a free Instagram guide (who also has been on social media courses) and can help you grow organically.

I’ve said it before and il say it again, follower count is just a vanity metric and doesn’t show how or prove how successful you are and certainly doesn’t help grow your socials or your business. Engagement and reach however will. So it’s should always be community over followers always 👏🏻👏🏻

If you have done this in the past or maybe you have had your account many years and haven’t been in the habit of removing fake/ghost/spammy accounts the instant they follow you then it’s time to start removing. Do this slowly though as a huge drop in followers can be harmful. (repeated action can also get you shadow banned) I recommend 25-50 a day. Once you have got rid of the fake accounts post consistently for a few weeks and you will see a huge improvement.

Remember Instagram only shows your content to 10% of your following, them interacting is what makes insta push your content further to new accounts. So if your following is full of fake accounts then the majority of that 10% it’s shown to will not be interacting and then it won’t be getting pushed.

All jokes aside, being an amazing lash/brow artists and being recommended via word of mouth is no longer all it takes to become successful.

I don’t know about you but when someone recommends someone to me for something, the recommendation alone is not enough to get me through the door or placing that order. I will always check out their social media first.

So now on top of perfecting our skills and providing an exceptional service to our clients (among our many other roles like cleaner, accountant, therapist etc) we need to be a content creator, social media manager, sole marketing team, illustrator and more.

Then we have the battle of the algorithms, in order for our work to be seen by potential new clients.

Social media I feel has been both a blessing and a curse. It can open so many doors, help your reach people your normally couldn’t and can really propel your business forward. However it is also time consuming, frustrating and sometimes down right disheartening and even harmful to your mental health.

So just a reminder to my fellow lash and brow artists out there. Follower number is just a vanity metric and doesn’t reflect how successful you actually are. Change your mindset and concentrate more on fun, educational and showcasing content, engagement over followers should always be your goal. Building that community 👏🏻👏🏻

Your skill level for creating content also doesn’t reflect on how fabulous your lash and brow skills are. Not everyone in the industry grew up with social media and camera phones. The people I see most struggling with social media are those who have been in the industry 20-30 years, the generation with years of experience and skill building but where word of mouth was the best tool for getting people through the door. Although times have changed and social media is at the forefront please do not let your skills in this area knock your confidence in the work you provide or how successful your business is.
