It was an absolute pleasure to host the birthday lunch for Margaret on Saturday as she celebrated her 100th Birthday at The Inn At Charlestown. Many happy returns 🎉🎂

Margaret Russell is celebrating her 100th birthday! She has lived in the Dunfermline area her entire life, and is the widow of Adam Russell and mother of Jan and Leslie. She loves reading, her favourite author being Mark Twain, and watching a good story on TV. In her younger days she enjoyed playing sports and dancing. She is a long standing member of Viewfield Baptist Church and although no longer physically able to attend services, remains in contact with fellow members. She was born at Halketts Hall, Limekilns on the 18th May 1924, to Duncan and Janet McLaren and lived most of her childhood in Forth Street and Milton Green, Dunfermline, along with her siblings David and Mona. She attended St Leonards and Queen Anne schools where she played on the school hockey team.
Her first job was a secretary at Fraser and Carmichaels. During the war she worked at the Post Office in Queen Anne Street and remembers walking home in the evenings with her gas mask tucked under her arm. However with the men returning from the war she had to move on and after passing the Civil Service exam worked at the Tax Office until she married.
Margaret met Adam in 1947 at the annual Post Office dance and they married February 16th 1950 and lived in Dewar Street until Adam retired. They then moved to Upper Kinneddar, Saline. In the 1970s Margaret briefly returned to work at the Post Office branch in Townhill Road then at Pitreavie.
Margaret and Adam enjoyed doing many things together including attending pottery classes, caravan holidays and church activities, and in the 1990s they enjoyed numerous trips to visit their daughter in the United States.
Margaret still misses Adam but is thankful to God that she remains in good health and has achieved this landmark birthday.

We had a fantastic day yesterday welcoming the The Jaguar Enthusiast' Club (Glasgow region) for lunch. We are absolutely delighted with their response to the day.

This is just a short e-mail, on behalf of The Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club, Glasgow Region, to thank everyone at The Inn at Charlestown for your hospitality yesterday, Sunday 21st April 2024.

Our lunch at the hotel was enjoyed by everyone and we would like to thank the management and all the staff for making our annual Drive-It Day a success.

Several members who had been at The Elgin Hotel, as it was before, commented very positively on the new look of the hotel and improvements you have undertaken. Needless to say...........we shall be back.
