Round the Island Swim Coaching 2.0
Friendly and knowledgeable open water and pool swim coach based in the Kingdom of Fife
What's Up, Swimmers!
Brilliant to be back and coaching front crawl to groups of swimmers in Lochgelly Pool. It's clear from the feedback that the swimmers enjoyed it too.
This is the set that I used on Thursday night. For people new to group swimming, this can be daunting but I explain every interval beforehand. And don't worry if it looks like a lot of swimming - not everyone does all of it.
Although the sessions are full just now, I'm expecting some more pool time to become available soon, so let me know if you are interested in taking part by emailing [email protected]
Hi folks
I will restart my group pool coaching sessions after the October holidays. The sessions I am running this year are:
🏊♂️Thursday nights: 7-8pm + 8-9pm at Lochgelly High School
🏊♀️ Friday nights: 8-9pm at Inverkeithing High School
These sessions are a mix of drills to develop technique and then some distance swimming for fitness.
These are almost full because swimmers from last year have signed up again but I have a couple of spaces left for some new swimmers. Let me know if you want to join in (or if you know someone else who might be up for it) by emailing [email protected]
Tuesday night's swim round the island was incredible. Awesome swimming by some brilliant people, coupled with a stunning sunset and perfect flat conditions. Swimming (and swim coaching) just doesn't get any better!
I've just updated my blog on breathing when swimming, adding some valuable tips that I have picked over the last few months. Let me know if you have experienced becoming breathless when swimming and how you have overcome it.
Front Crawl Breathing (Part 2) Breathing is the foundation of swimming. Getting a comfortable and regular air supply allows our bodies to relax and enjoy swimming. If our breathing is irregular and inconsistent
LOCH CHON DELIVERS AGAIN
Another great day out for RTISC swimmers at the atmospheric Loch Chon. Started in the fog and ended in the sunshine, followed by carrot cake and brownies.
Looking at Loch Drunkie for our next adventure swim.
Just in case you were unsure how good swimming is for your all-round health have a listen to this fascinating 15-minute podcast.

Amazing weekend for RTISC swimmers.
At Go Swim's Loch Lomond event yesterday, Lesley smashed the 750m event swimming front crawl coming 3rd in the glamorous vintage age group, accompanied by her faithful selkie, Bill. Ems and Laura slayed the 3k swim, while Laurie and Pauline nailed the 1500m swim, Pauline in Skins.
(I had a wee crack at the 5k swim).
Then today Kirsty completed her first triathlon at the Scurry Events off-road triathlon meet at Lochore Meadows.
Well done, everyone!! Love coaching you all.
Hi everyone.
A wee reminder that Tuesday evening is one of my regular evenings for group swim coaching sessions at Lochore Meadows. 6.30 is the swim to the yellow buoy and then 7.30 for the round the island swim.
Conditions are looking great tonight (honestly, they really are) - so get in touch if you want to sign up [email protected]
I squeezed in a couple of morning swims in this fabulous lido on the south coast of England this week. Don't think I've ever swum somewhere with such a stunning backdrop.
Does anyone know where I was?
On Sunday, four swimmers joined me for a guided adventure swim in perfect conditions at the serene Loch Chon in the Trossachs. The 2.5km swim circumnavigated three islands, allowing the swimmers time to stop and take in the spectacular backdrop, adjust their goggles and allow me to explain the route of the next section so the swimmers knew what to sight on.
After the swim, we sat and blethered and ate cakes and bacon butties.
I'm running another Loch Chon swim on 8th September so if you fancy that let me know by commenting on the event below.

Wow!! Just like that, Round the Island Swim Coaching is one year old.
It's been a brilliant first year of business, coaching well over one hundred swimmers of different abilities in the sea and the pool, but mostly Lochore Meadows (my office).
I didn't realise that when I started the business I would create a community, bringing together people who share a love swimming outside. It's been the best.
It just remains to say thank you to all my brilliant clients who have worked so hard to improve your swimming and are just lovely.
Hi folks. Couple of spaces left for my fab Loch Chon swim next Sunday - 4th August. It's a guided + coached 2.2km return swim from the northeast end of Loch around the islands. Loch-side barbeque and soft drinks will be provided. Meet at 10am. £50pp.
Send me a DM if you'd like to join.
An enormous shout out to Anna who completed the epic 24km Downhill Swim event in Kuusamo in Finland yesterday - https://www.facebook.com/downhillswim. It’s a beautiful downstream river swim through spectacular Nordic wilderness.
When Anna contacted me in December last year she said she wanted to build up her open water swim endurance by joining my group pool coaching sessions. We worked together to develop all areas of her technique, especially timing and breathing so that her stroke became sustainable over a long distance and more relaxing and enjoyable.
Fast-forward 8 months, she completed the Downhill Swim in an incredible 6 hours. Six hours, people!!!! Imagine swimming for 6 hours non-stop!!! What an incredible human. Well done, Anna. (on left in picture)
One of the best-ever group swim sessions at this evening. Five swimmers swam round the island, a distance of over 1400m. All of these swimmers started by swimming a couple of hundred metres in my confidence group on Sunday mornings and have moved on to this. Well done folks!!!!
To celebrate, one of the swimmers shared some amazing homemade banana and choc chip muffins.
Then (as if the evening couldn't get any better) I had a lovely swim round the island myself.
OK Swimmers.
I'm running a special summer offer for the next four weeks called the '99', after my fave summer ice cream (no strawberry sauce thanks!).
For £99 you can buy three 1-2-1's with me at Lochore Meadows. Normally I would charge £135 for three 1-2-1's so it's a great deal. Each session normally lasts 50 minutes but depends on each swimmer.
If you want to catapult your swim technique take 3 sessions all to yourself for £99 and take them over the next 4 weeks, or club together with 2 friends and bag a session each, paying £99 altogether.
All the sessions need to be taken before the end of July.
As usual, send me an email to [email protected]
Hello Possee!
Hope you all had a brilliant weekend. Fab group swims yesterday at Lochore - the confidence group all smashed it!
Here's a wee schedule of what's happening this week at RTISC. All these are at Lochore.
Tuesday evening : 6.30pm - yellow buoy. 7.30pm - twice round the island.
Friday evening : 10pm - night swim. More deets here - https://www.facebook.com/events/987421762838006
Sunday morning : 9am - speedsters. 10am confidence builders. 11am round the island
The night swim was awesome last time, and the conditions also look good for this time.
Let me know if you want to join up with any of these by emailing [email protected]
I ran my first night swim at Lochore Meadows last night in perfectly still conditions. All the swimmers loved swimming in the dark. I illuminated my buoys to make a wee course to swim round.
Keep your eyes peeled for my next night swim
The very best of luck to all the swimmers taking part in the Coniston End-to-End 8.4km Swim tomorrow morning.
Special shout-outs to Tom, Sooze, Sue, Kenny, and particularly my excellent pal, Bill, who are all taking part.
I have been working with Bill for over 9 months, preparing for this swim, and so it's truly excellent to see his hard work culminate in this challenging swim. 💪🏊♀️

Got my Taylor Swift vibe on!!! Hoping it's not a cruel summer.
😉
Great morning of coaching at Lochore today. Three swimmers joined the confidence group for the first time and great conditions for the round the island swim (see photo).
