Cody joined us at the aldin grange junior club today and he caught his first carp on kingfisher lake. Plus he caught plenty of silvers and perch. Well done Cody.
A couple of nice carp pics from Christopher off a recent trip.
Callum Pattie with his latest catch. A nice common. Well done
Shay has been wanting to catch one of our brownies and was rewarded for his patience today. Well done Shay. He is turning out to be a fine angler.
Had a cracking afternoon with lovely people. Brand new to fishing and rewarded with a good afternoons sport on skylark. Well done.
Well done to Callum on his latest catch of one of our common carp
The trout are getting bigger as Mick one of our regular anglers found out the other day
Adyn Mawson landed a cracking couple of rainbow trout on Saturday. The fish on Swallow lake are really packing on the pounds. Well done Adyn
Anyone pick up a landing net on Sunday. It was left on a peg on skylark trout lake. The young owner would be very grateful if it was handed in to the fishing office.
Carp are showing well on kingfisher on Saturday as water is finally getting warmer. Lewis had them feeding well and had 9 out in the couple of hours. Don't know how many he had at end of day but he enjoyed the sport.
Lots of Trout falling for wicked white buzzers fished just 2 to 3 feet down. Bloodworm also doing well as is pink or bright green blobs. There are a few hatches starting to appear so its worth throwing out an merger (wicked white again) won't be long before the massive hatches just need water to warm a little. We have had some lovely brownies showing 5 - 8lb and you can see them chasing fry in the middle of the lake
Thanks to Cameron for sending in pics from his recent catches from Blackbird lake. He fished in miserable weather yesterday to be rewarded with a once in a lifetime running Koi - well done
Warm weather had the carp rolling and ready to feed. Sunday saw a good day for regular angler Bob Keedle. Bob only popped up for a morning session with just a handful of bait. Bob watched the carp's movements and targeted the swim's expertly and was rewarded with a lovely pristine common of 10.25lb's followed by a mirror of 6.25lb, topped of with a nice fight from a feisty common of 9.75lb's. if you ask him nicely he may tell you his favourite winter bait.
Fantastic fishing this weekend as waters warm up. Lots of good carp coming to nets ahead of them spawning. Good shoals of silvers giving good sport and quite a few tench also showing. On the fly fishing scene. Lots of good fish coming to the dry even though it is really bright. Wicked white emerges doing exceptionally well all that coupled with a fantastic light show in the sky made one of the best bank holiday weekends
Charlotte with her first carp yesterday. Well done.
David with his first carp of the day. Carp now showing well as weather gets a touch warmer. Trout have just been restocked and topping well taking fly from the top
Plenty of Carp coming out this weekend plus Silvers are actively feeding giving good sport. Remember it's still very cold water so restrict the amount of freebee bait going in and you should be rewarded with some good fishing.

Well done to everyone who took part in todays fly fishing Match. It was very well supported as you can see from pics. The anglers battled extreme cold and at midday it started to Ice over. Brian the owner stepped in with his loader and was able to free the pegs from Ice during lunch allowing the match to continue and it did not put the fish off. For extreme cold there was plenty of fish coming to net
Winners were
first place with 9 fish from 5 pegs - Simon Lee netting £240
Second place with 8 fish from 4 pegs - Robert Felps Netting £160
Third with 6 fish form 5 pegs was Lee Abott
Fourth was Josh Pipper
Please see video attached for presentation (appologies for low quality but it was getting fairly dark at the time)
Again well done to everyone who took part and we look forward to seeing you on the bank soon
Fly match on Aldin lakes still ok and going ahead. Water has not frozen over and there is still plenty of fish being caught. Tight lines to all tht is fishing the match
I had a fantastic days fly fishing yesterday, in fact I would go as far as to say it was my one of my best days yet. I went up to Aldin with intent to sort out my back cast as I only had 3 hours before dusk. But on the way up to Skylark I met a fellow angle Ray on Blackbird and we got chatting. As we were talking I dropped a line only 2 rod lengths out and I was instantly into a cracking rainbow around 2lb and it had attitude giving a real good fight. I recast and again instant bite, I dropped that one so back out and as soon as fly neered bottom bang and I was into another fish. This one was different it took off like a steam train and it was heavy when it came to net it was a lovely 6lb rainbow with a cracking shape and fighting fit. this went on for another hour, everycast was a bite. I dropped 4 fish but landed 10. Most fell to the point fly which was a peach tinny but they were taking bloodworm and buzzer as well. In the open water I was having fun having a decent cast out and retrieving a muddler back slowly with a jerky action. The trout were hitting it hard and good sport. As dusk came to quickly I landed another good rainbow of 5lb and on the last cast I was into another good fight only to land a fantastic looking brownie of 5lb.This made my day and I still did not get upto Skylark lake yet. Get yourself up to Aldin and hopefully Blackbird will reward you as it did me - editor
Battling extremely cold weather today, one of our regular fly fisherman Ray was able to have a great day landing 19 trout and a couple of them were cracking brownies of around 4lb. Ray fished a sinking leader and one of his own creation unweighted black zonkers. he was only fishing in the uperlayers but he was right on the trout. Well done Ray
Another good weeks sport on the trout lakes. Pleanty of fish coming to the dry, which is making a lot of our anglers very happy. F fly, hoppers' beatle and daddies have all been doing the trick. There has been lots of hatches and fish have been feeding just under the surface so small olive emergers and wicked white buzzers have are the patterns that have been taking.
Some nice carp been landed this week. Most been caught on the fishery tiger nut pellets and the robin red flavoured luncheon meat. Pleanty of sport on the silver lake (Woodpecker) with many of the resident crucians been caught on single maggot.
Unfortunately the junior club is canceled this weekend 29th August. Next event in 2 weeks time.
We now have a range of middy coarse reels in stock. These have been hard to get hold of because of the way world supplies have been. So grab them now while you can
Just a quick reminder that the Aldin Grange Juniors Club is on this coming Sunday, from 9am until 3pm. Any juniors wanting to try fishing or experienced juniors wanting to improve there skills are welcome. No fishing tackle is needed as we have club equipement, but if juniors want to use there own gear they can.
Under 12's must be accompanied by an adult
We had a visit today from two matchmen Phil and Roy and the y checked out Kingfisher lake for us. Apart from plenty of carp showing on the lake they fished to see what other species they could target and as you see from the pics they landed some nice F1's , Ide, Skimmers , Roach , Rudd and of course perch. They only had a few hours on lake but we were glad to see that they had a good time.
