**IMPORTANT POST!**

It’ll probably come as little surprise, seeing as we haven’t been seen trading for ~12 months, that I’ve decided to formally close the business! 🥺

I was hoping for some miracle of a bright idea (and possibly an extra 2 hours in a day!?) that would allow me to keep going along side a full time job and 3 little ones, but it wasn’t meant to be. Plus the financials were pretty tough going in the end.

I’m still proud of what it was albeit for a short period of time. I made some mistakes but learnt absolutely loads too. Hoping that it converted some people to a more eco-friendly way of shopping.

Thank you to everyone who believed in the idea, helped me with the set up, gave advice, all the lovely stockists I met along the way, people who came to chat to me or bought anything from me - big or small, one off or regular.

Please continue to support your local independent business. It’s a tough gig at the best of times but right now even more so. Those shops & the people that run them, remember your name and bit a about you are what make the high street, village, food market, whatever interesting and worth a visit. No one wants a street full of big brands….

As well as taking a bit time out to think about the future of the biz, we’ve also been on a planned holiday (flights carbon offset). We almost always stay in Airbnb’s which are proven to be a more eco friendly way to travel than traditional hotels, and it means we get to stay in some amazingly quirky properties.

I won’t bore you with the waste recycling here in Sweden, but it’s also epic! 🤩

I returned to work this week, full time, after over a year off. I don’t think it was ever going to be easy, but oh my what.a.week.

After a lot of thought and back & forth, I’ve decided to put the business on hold, which will incorporate a planned holiday in any event.

Our next stop will be on 20th August.

We’re still working on our website and click & collect/delivery service in the background.

From this Thursday our pitch will be in front of the Visitors centre/ticket barrier. This means that you won't need a ticket to come and stock up from the trailer!

However I strongly recommend taking a look around, especially now that Rhododendron season is upon us 🌸. Truly one of the best places in the North East to see them in bloom.

It’s refill day for the cleaning materials I use in the trailer so I thought I’d show you how economical it can be to refill 💚

Esther produces wonderous preserves & chutneys from home in Burnopfield with home & locally grown produce. She also recently won GOLD at the world marmalade awards for her Bitter Seville Marmalade 🥇. We stock a range of her products which change with the season so have to get in fast!

Next is flour. One of the best flours on the market and not only is the product more nutritionally dense than most flours, it’s also grown in a way which promotes bio diversity in farms. We stock all purpose, wholemeal & strong bread flour.

As part of The Northern Lass Lounge’s 5 day challenge I’m sharing a bit more about it myself and background to my little biz!

I’m Kathryn, and I run , a mobile refill shop, housed in a vintage converted horsebox! Bit of a mouthful of an elevator pitch that! We stock pretty much everything you’d find in the dry goods aisle of a supermarket, as well as cleaning supplies & toiletries, plus some local goodies. All sold by weight and packaging free ♻️

I set up the business after, as a family, we really struggled to find sustainable alternatives locally when doing our weekly shop. Plus we wanted to make sure our littlies didn’t grow up thinking all food came in plastic! Speaking of which, ⬆️ I’m currently on maternity leave with my lovely twin boys, and I have an equally lovely little girl who is nearly 4. My day job is in supply chain at a large northern car firm…🤔

I’m so pleased to have found The Northern Lass Louge, not least because they have a # with ‘mak’ in the name and the only other person who I’ve heard say this is my class Dad (aka Fatha’) 😆. But also because it’s a wonderful space full of positivity and very wise lasses 😍😍
