silent weekend

SILENT SUPPORT WEEKEND | As an FA-affiliated club we feel obliged to take part in the National Silent Support Weekend which is taking place over the weekend of Saturday 5th & 6th of November 2022. Leagues and clubs across the country are asking all spectators and coaches to show their support through applause only when the match is in play. This gives players a better opportunity to find their own voice and develop their game. The aim is to reduce pressure on youth players at grassroots level and give them a better opportunity and environment to find their own voice, improve their on-pitch communications skills, develop their own game, and most importantly have fun. Across the National Silent Support Weekend, the FA are encouraging coaches and spectators to show their support by applauding good play from both teams, but refraining from talking or shouting. This is to create an enjoyable, safe and developmental experience for all youth players, so that they can play the game with freedom, without pressure, and without an over-emphasis on winning at all costs. What to do at the Silent Weekend? • Allow players to make mistakes • Allow players to make their own decisions • Applaud good play and effort from either team What are the benefits of the Silent Weekend? • Players can concentrate on the game and not be distracted by the touchline • Players develop independent learning and decision-making • Coaches can assess the teams’ communication skills Please join us on this weekend and find out what happens when we turn the volume down for the players on the pitch.

DURHAM UNITED CLUB DAY | Our whole club event is taking place this Saturday. Please come along and join us from 1pm. All our members along with members of the community are welcome. #DurhamAsOne
