It’s Thursday so Men’s Pie Club was on! This week we mixed it up and made a rhubarb, apple and custard crumble topped pie 🥧
Rhubarb was supplied from Ken’s allotment and everyone was pretty impressed with how they turned out.
Something savourys back on the menu next week with three cheese and spinach pie.
If you would like to get involved just turn up 10-12 Thursday mornings, no need to book, no cost (as it’s funded by Movember through Men's Pie Club and Key Fund 🙏). All you need to do is come along, kettles always on and biscuits at the ready(as these improve your pie making skills……. That might not be accurate but they help 😆).

Woodshed Whittlers is on tomorrow 10-12 and 1-3. Recently Woodshed Workshop found a right bargain AND the perfect project for the group in the form of a caravan in desperate need of some good old TLC. Some would say it’s a hopeless cause but not the Whittlers! All they see is potential and it’s definitely ignited plenty of interest and ideas 💡👀

Our Woodshed Whittlers group recently made some bird boxes for the children at Witton Gilbert Nursery. We were delighted to get a visit on Friday from Dorothy, one of the staff members from the nursery who delivered a beautiful thank you picture that the children had made.

Last night we got to attend the first Men's Pie Club social evening hosted Earthlings - The healing Cafe in Newcastle.
There were laughs all round with entertainment by Steffen Peddie followed by a pie themed quiz. Thanks to Chris and Frazer for putting on a great evening and Earthlings Healing Cafe for a delicious turmeric chai latte!

A couple of months ago we took a donation of this cute little desk and chairs from a local resident that needed some TLC. It turned into a project for a number of our groups who took it apart, stripped it back and brought it back to life. Saved from landfill and ready for someone else to use!

Last Friday we collaborated with Sacriston Youth And Community Project for a day of creativity with young people. We started the day with brekky and everyone setting out the rules with ‘Have Fun’ being top of the list!

Throughout the day the young people took part in sessions of Venetian plastering, stencilling, sewing (with a bit of a twist), paint pouring, water bomb art and swing painting. Energy levels were kept high with pizza, pop and homemade cakes.

We’d like to thank for coming along and putting on a Venetian plastering workshop as well as stencilling and paint pouring.

Always learning……. Yesterday staff and participants of the Woodshed Whittlers passed their PAT testing qualification at PASS Training in Stockton. This was funded by Sustainability Fund and is the start of some new and exciting things happening at Woodshed. Stay posted for more details soon.

On Wednesday we had the privilege of attending the North East book launch of Social Infrastructure and Left Behind Places which was written by John Tomaney of University College of London. The launch was informative and thought provoking with speakers from the Regional Studies Association, Newcastle University, NHS, Beamish Museum and local speakers who formed a panel of opinions.

As part of the research and focus for the book John and his team choose to carry out a study of Sacriston as a left behind village in the North East.
Woodshed Workshop looks forward to working with John and his team as they continue their study in Sacriston.
