“Amatsu Tatara is the medicine that comes from nature. No matter the time or era, it is something that is necessary for mankind”
One of the powerful quotes from Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi when teaching Amatsu principles to the first ever Westerners to learn this therapy, Dennis Bartram, Chris Roworth and Billy Doolan in 1995.
This therapy has records going back 3000 years, and is now being validated by modern science (Biotensegrity) and brought back to benefit our modern lives.
Unfortunately my mobile phone has decided to stop working completely. I can still be reached via FB messenger
Please bear with me whilst I sort out a new one😶
Visited this fabulous antiques and crafts shop in Flaxton this afternoon. Beautiful paintings and cards. Couldn't take my eyes off the gorgeous fabrics. Lovely artist owner.
What have beautiful simple Japanese Ikebana flower arrangements got to do with Amatsu?
Well, the overall shape symbolises heaven, man and earth in line with the concept of Sanshin (a trilogy) or more specifically Ten chi jin. The sky/heaven is always represented by the highest point of the arrangement, the human being is towards the centre, and the ground is horizontal or lower down.
When you receive an Amatsu balance treatment from me, I will always also treat 3 key locations of the body.
· Feet /legs– our connection the ground (EARTH)
· Spine and pelvis – the representation of MAN
· Head and Neck – the representation of HEAVEN
Merry Restmas 🎄🎄🎄 and wishing you a peaceful, joyful Christmas.
Many thanks to everyone. All your support, warmth, friendless and general loveliness has really helped me feel established back in Yorkshire 🙏 ❤
Taking a break now till 4th January. See you then x
New therapy space ready near Easingwold, York 🙂
Amatsu treats all layers of the body
Including the bones ~ that are held in position by the soft tissues (ligaments, muscles, fascias) and the ‘biotensegrity’ which help support the bones giving ‘suspension’ to the joints. If these soft tissues become unbalanced this leads to loss of support and misalignment of bones.
The nerve pathways ~ and where they travel through canals between the bones and soft tissues.
If the bones become misaligned this can cause nerve entrapment or loss of glide, leading to loss of function, pain or numbness.
Energy channels (meridians) and the acupoints ~ that carry (qi or ‘life energy’) have been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine systems. Imbalance of these systems can lead to physical and emotional stress and pain and dysfunction of all the body systems.
Craniosacral system and visceral (organ systems) which will be looked at in another post.
All of these systems are affected through injury, emotional, postural, environmental, dietary stress, and need to be managed on a regular basis, to maintain good health and function of the body.
These systems are all addressed during an Amatsu treatment or ‘balance’ by corrections using natural movement (taijutsu) to maintain health and harmony of the body.
This page has been created to share the history, philosophy and benefits of the Amatsu Therapy. Please feel free to share your experiences and stories with Amatsu

I've had some fantastic help from local people and businesses . Thank you everyone especially Ann, Aynsley, Loraine, Steve, Caroline Wilson and Marianne Handy Mag (great communication, graphics skills and timely responses )
Exciting news coming shortly😉😁
One of the aspects that I love about being an Amatsu practitioner is considering and working with the interconnectivity of all things within the body.
A pain in your neck could be connected with how you sit, walk or stand.
A quick chat and initial examination will soon establish the root cause.

Always interested to see what the foot looks like as client stands and how it behaves when they walk. This post , explains simply how the foot can have an impact further up the body 😉 Wonderful things, our feet 🦶👣
WHY YOUR FOOT ARCHES ARE SO IMPORTANT
Proper arch mechanics allow for shock absorption when we walk. This requires the right amounts of both pronation and supination in the same step. We contact the ground in a supinated position and immediately pronate. This pronation increases the mobility of the foot to absorb the shock of your steps.
If you don't pronate, such as with a high arched foot you cannot dissipate the shock. That shock will have to be taken on somewhere else. Often it is at the inside of the heel where it contributes to plantar fasciitis. Other times it travels up into the lower leg and causes shin splints.
If you overpronate, you repeatedly overstretch ↔ the plantar fascia, which can lead to tissue overload and pain. That motion will travel up the kinetic chain, internally rotating the knee and hip. This stresses the medial knee ligaments and meniscus, which just so happen to be the most common area to see degeneration. I wonder why? Internal rotation at the hip will also shut down the hip abductors, which are dynamic stabilizers of the hip and pelvis. This can lead to pain in the hip, SI joint, and low back. Noticing a trend yet?
The feet are the foundation of your entire body. If their mechanics are off, everything could be as well.

Amatsu soft tissue therapy uses a light touch, that matches the client's pulls and torsions in their own tissue. We achieve this touch via the practitioner's natural movement, called "taijutsu"

About Amastu
I discovered Amatsu about 8 years ago when I injured my ankle during a running event in the Lake District. Someone saw me stumble and came over to help me. They ‘did something’ to my ankle, knee and leg and I was able to stand and walk again. Needless to say, I was amazed. It turned out to be Amatsu. I searched for a therapist near me and went for regular treatments for years until the timing was right for me to train as a therapist.
Amatsu is a gentle therapy which uses a combination of releases, mobilisation and massage, to help realign, rebalance and improve mobility.
If you are suffering with foot pain, knee pain, back pain, shoulder problems, postural issues, RSI, strains or sprains, headaches, then I would like to help you with Amatsu soft tissue therapy.
I’m Glenys Sears and I work from East Leake (between Nottingham and Loughborough).
