ππI can't quite believe it - May 2024 marks 10 years since starting my business. ππ
10 years since I completely changed my career, and made my career work for me and round my lovely family.
ππ«΅I can't thank you all enough for supporting me through these past 10 years, whether you read, share or like posts, are a regular client, or simply drop in when needed. Self employment can be the most liberating, rewarding and challenging choice, but having amazing clients definitely makes it all the more easier and worth while.
βπ€In those 10 years I have learnt so much about the human body, and the amazing role that massage can play in supporting the body on a physical and emotional level. However I feel there is still so much to learn and find out which is why I love what I do. On a daily basis the body both astounds, bewilders and inspires me. It's human nature to focus on what doesn't feel right but just remember the millions of tiny processes which at any one time are in perfect working order, from blinking our eyes, to our toenails growing and our kidneys filtering our blood. Our bodies are truly amazing!
π₯ So here's to the next 10 years - whatever they bring! π₯

πAre you booked in for an elective C-Section, or recovering from giving birth via C-Section? Did you know that I have a free leaflet giving tips and advice on early recovery and how to look after your scar! This is available to download for free directly from my website :D

When is scar work not appropriate?
π If you are experiencing pain in the area you should always get this checked out by your GP. You may be sent for an ultrasound or have further tests carried out. It is generally best to avoid scar work until everything has been investigated.
πIf you are actively trying to conceive, suspect, or know you are pregnant then avoid scar work. Keep your therapist up to date - as any changes in your circumstances will need a discussion - it's never 'too much information' :)
πDo you have a IUD (coil) fitted? Your c section scar can still be treated if you have an IUD in place but your therapist may need to adapt how they work, so always keep them updated. In addition if you are doing self massage avoid working deeply over the scar. Check with your therapist the appropriate depth to work at given the IUD.
πMassaging your own scar can be unknown territory - many clients are not sure if they are doing it right, or going to cause more damage. When you are ready to start massaging your scar here are my top tips:
π - Get yourself comfortable. Lie on your back, knees can be bent or legs flat to soften your abdominal muscles.
π - If you have lost sensation, start above the scar where there is full feeling. Work gradually down using the same pressure. Go GENTLE.
π - Slowly imagine playing the piano across your scar and your lower tummy (think scar up to belly button), use the same amount of pressure as you would on a keyboard.
π - Avoid movements pulling or stretching the skin away from the scar.
π - Softly press the skin onto the tissues below and move these tissues exploring the area. Think of a Xmas stocking... you are not trying to feel the stocking on the outside, but sink through the stocking to feel the presents inside. In the same way we want to engage with the tissues below the surface of the skin. If you are comfortable with this then gently move the skin over the tissues going into circular movements along and above the scar.
π - If it feels uncomfortable or painful, stop.
π - Massaging should be intuitive - don't overthink it!
π- If you can manage 2-3mins, 2-3 x weekly then you are doing amazing!
πStart massaging / interacting with your scar once it has fully healed over and is completely robust. It might be that initially you simply stroke your scar, or run something soft (like a feather) over the top of it.
Ohhh a brand new box of my c section leaflets has just arrived. 2nd edition tweeked, updated and improved π
If anyone needs more leaflets for their clients just let me know π
Are you a client who regularly forgets which house is mine... well for the next couple of weeks simply look out for the cherry blossom πΈ and you have arrived! π love this time of year!

Our Story
As a remedial massage therapist, I work with you to help alleviate the aches and pains that are sustained during everyday life. Whether you are an office worker, keen runner, pregnant, a new mum or dad, or simply dealing with stress, the principles are the same. Specialised C-section recovery treatment also available. A consultation and assessment enables me to look at the bigger picture, ascertaining the cause of the tension, which is very often not the site of pain, and allows me to use a variety of techniques to help improve and restore the muscle function and range of movement. I also provide simple advice for post treatment self care, which can help you maintain muscular function. More info can be found at www.SamMassageTherapy.co.uk
In 2019 I completed Sharon Wheelerβs ScarWork course. I had always worked on csection scars and knew the impact and changes that they can cause throughout the body, however this new course gave me a deeper understanding of scars and how they affect the body. This very gentle form of massage can have profound changes on the look, feel, sensation of the scar, as well as improving the quality of the underlying tissues, vital for restoring balance in the body. For further information please message me.
I also specialise in helping alleviate the psychological affects of traumatic birth, using the 3 step rewind method. Please message me for further details.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday daytime appointments available at my home treatment room in Drumsagard (Cambuslang G72 7GL). Easy access by train and road.
