Gillian Hinton, Civil Celebrant

Creating a unique and personal ceremony for your funeral, naming ceremony or commitment ceremony.

28/08/2024

August has marked the second anniversary of my beginning Civil Celebrant work. I specialise mostly in funeral services and despite the sad nature of funerals, I find working with bereaved families very rewarding. When I deliver a service I see grief and tears, I also see smiles, sometimes laughter and always love.

Thank you to the families who trusted me with their loved ones memory. Thank you to the families who saw my work, and asked for me by name when the time came that they needed a celebrant.

Special thanks to Priest Funerals in Worksop who trusted me and gave me my first service. They continue to trust me. Thank you to New Ollerton Funeralcare who also trusted me in my early days. They continue to trust me.

Thanks too, to all the funeral directors who have given me services, Hurton’s, Townroe’s, Dolby’s, Jeremy Neal, Worksop Co-op Funeralcare and Graham Hall.

The most rewarding part of this role, for me, is when people speak to me at the end of a service and say “ that was a lovely service, it felt as if you knew him (or her)” then I know I did my job well.

Join the Team: Mechanic wanted.

Whilst we finalise plans to undertake work on a brand new garage for Retford Auto Centre ( in the same location as we currently are ), it is time to recruit a second mechanic to help with the increasing demand, thanks to continuous support from loyal customers and through recommendations.

A part time worker would be preferable at this stage but we are open to full time employment.
I work a four day week ( Tuesday to Friday 8.30 til 5.30 )

Experience;
Must have at least 3 years post qualification experience and be competent in the majority of light vehicle service and repair tasks.
This post would be ideal for someone who is looking at reducing their hours due to retirement or who would like to get back into work.

Although not essential MOT testing would be seen as a huge asset, along with any auto electrical and Electric and Hybrid vehicle knowledge and training.

Salary, ongoing training and other details to be discussed.

A trail period would be required along with a CV, a full, clean UK driving licence and references.

Most importantly we ask that whoever is interested cares just as much for our customers and their vehicles as we do, who is committed to going above and beyond with a can do attitude. Needs to love dogs (Hank) and needs make a good cup of coffee!

Please give us a call or pop in.

** I've been asked numerous times about taking on apprentices and as much as I'd love to support someone's training, currently it's not the right time. I hope in the near future that this will be a post that we can offer.**

Today is the anniversary of the first funeral service I led. What a year! 35 families have allowed me to lead the service for their dear departed, thank you to you all. I have been nominated for the Best Newcomer category in the good funeral awards, thank you for that.
Thank you to Priest Funerals Ltd who gave me my first service and continue to do so. Thank you to New Ollerton Funeralcare, who use my service on a regular basis. Thanks too to E Hurton & Son, Worksop Co-op Funeralcare, and Rotherhamfunerals.co.uk who have all used my services.
I am looking forward to my second year and my continuing success.
I meet families under distressing circumstances, we cry, we laugh, we remember and we say a loving and personal goodbye to each individual. That’s the best we can do.

Lovely to meet our Retford Mayor Daniel and his Deputy David at the launch of Retford Osteo Clinic’s new premises. Great to see Dawn Cragg Mbe, Tracy Beavis, Heather's Cakes for All Occasions, and Jason McGlone all there to wish Peter success.

I was surprised at 3C’s Networking today with truly humbling words from a bereaved family. They sent this review with another network member and she read it to the group. I can only say thank you!

🕊️ A funeral is not a day in a lifetime....
It is a lifetime in a day. 🕊️

Currently my favourite verse:

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done

2022 has been a big year for me, I changed direction and became a Civil Celebrant with an accent on funeral services. It’s been a really, really emotional and fulfilling time. I discovered that I actually have a talent for writing a eulogy and delivering a heartfelt service. Comments from bereaved families never fail to make me smile, and I feel privileged to have been able to help them say the goodbye that they wanted. All of my families have been unique, but united in wanting to say a loving goodbye. I’m glad I could help.
