October Spam Update Google 🍂

On October 21st, Google rolled out a new spam update. Whilst Google didn’t specify what type of spam it targeted, we can speculate it’s in relation to their newly updated ‘Google Search Essentials’ document.

Here are some quick facts on the new update that you need to know:
- Target: aims to improve Google’s spam detection techniques; sites that violate the spam policy will rank lower in search results or may not appear.
- Penalty: penalises spammy techniques that go against Google’s spam policy
- Global: this impacts all regions and languages
- Recovery: if you were affected by this update, Google has suggested reviewing its spam policies to ensure your business complies with them.

🆕 Google has recently been rolling out new updates to streamline their Google Ad creation. This was to solve the problem many time-strapped marketers face: the inability to manage ads and ad extensions in a single workflow.

So, what’s new?

When creating search and performance max campaigns, you’ll now find a final review called ‘Ads & Assets’. With this, you can add new assets such as images, sitelinks, prices, lead forms and any additional information to your campaign.

New reporting is also available for Google Ads Assets. By clicking on ‘Assets’, it will now take you to a toggle between ‘Asset’ and ‘Association’ in a drop-down menu. The ‘Asset’ table views reports on headlines and descriptions whilst, ‘Association’ shows reports on individual assets such as images and prices. 📈

The ‘combination’ report will now allow you to see the top-performing combinations of the asset. 🏆

When are these available?

Updated Google Ads workflows and reporting, except combinations report, will be available in the coming weeks. Whilst the combinations report will be available in the next few months.

During the pandemic, many of us looked to online ecommerce apps to purchase items that we wanted without the need to leave home. This caused an increase in online sales and app installations during the years 2020-2021. 🛍️

Due to recent times with the war in Ukraine, supply-chains have now suffered with disruptions along with rising inflation and a fear of economic downturn have all begun to create issues for online retail companies.

With less non-organic installs occurring, ecommerce is no longer holding the draw it once did. Rising prices have also taken a toll on marketing budgets so most companies have resulted in remarketing to current consumers via their own media channels to help increase promotion.

With the 2022 holiday season approaching with Black Friday. Do you reckon that these ecommerce apps will make a comeback?🛒

Last week, on August 8th, Google experienced a widespread outage, which resulted in disruptions to search rankings, as well as indexing issues.

A spokesperson for Google apologized for the outage and explained it was due to a software update;

“We’re aware of a software update issue that occurred late this afternoon [on the 8th] and briefly affected availability of Google search and Maps”.

That being said, indexing and rankings should have recovered now. If they haven’t, we suggest giving it a little more time.
