⚠️HEAVY SNOW ACROSS THE NORTH & NORTHEAST
⚠️COLD SPELL SET TO LAST
Heavy overnight snow has blanketed parts of Caithness, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus and into parts of Perthshire and Kinross. These outbreaks of snow will continue for many through the morning making for an unpleasant morning commute, with treacherous driving conditions on rural roads.
Elsewhere there’ll be plenty of crisp winter sunshine but frosty here also, with a risk of icy stretches on roads. Bitterly cold once again tonight with further heavy snow in the form of showers across the north and northeast, and over the Scottish mountains.
The cold spell looks set to last throughout the weekend and for next week with sub zero temperatures by day away from coastal areas and night time temperatures generally as low as -6 to -8 degrees Celsius, but down to as low as -15 degrees or below in some areas of the Cairngorms and central Highlands.
Further updates to follow.
Kind regards,
Cathal Nolan

❄️FIRST TASTE OF WINTER

Our weather will remain rather seasonal as we head into the meteorological start of winter, with an Atlantic weather front trying but not succeeding in crossing the country through Thursday into Saturday. Instead, once this system has cleared by Sunday we’ll experience a rather noticeable change in our weather conditions. Temperatures will range between 6 to 9 degrees Celsius generally, with a risk of a slight frost where skies clear.
As winds swing around to an easterly direction we start to draw in some colder air from the contienen. Not exceptionally cold, but cold enough for some wintry showers over higher ground and sleet to lower levels for the first half of next week. Eastern areas will see the heaviest of the showers, whereas to the west of the central Highlands here conditions will stay rather dry. Temperatures dropping back generally to between 4 to 7 degrees Celsius, with a sharp to severe frost in sheltered areas and to the west.
Through Thursday of next week conditions change once again, with our winds switching around to a colder north to northeasterly direction, drawing in a cold polar airmass. Wintry showers by then will become widespread along eastern and northern coasts, with snow by then likely falling to lower levels also. Accumulations of snow are likely, especially over the mountains with severe night frosts also likely away from exposed coasts. Temperatures by day will at best reach 2 to 5 degrees Celsius, with night time temperatures dropping to between -1 to -4 degrees generally, lower in sheltered glens.
Further updates will follow over the coming days. For now, welcome to Meteo Scot and I hope you enjoy our new service.
Regards,
Cathal
