Knackie Knits

Heirloom pieces for babies to adults, hand knitted by a Glasgow mum.

Photos from Knackie Knits's post 20/07/2024

Blocked and dried just in time, these lovelies finally made it to my friend today! So now you can all see the beautiful, “crazy” colours. The pattern is the Weekend Shorties from .lee.knits, but I just used ’s zauberball crazy yarn for the whole sock, which I picked up at 🧶

19/07/2024

It’s down to the wire on these gift socks, but luckily I’ve got two stages of the Tour de France to catch up on now, so they’ll definitely be done in time, ends and all!!

Photographing socks knit two at a time is almost as fiddly as knitting socks two at a time!

A little Ranunculus update!

Leaving the gift socks behind for a few days, I’m working on another Ranunculus! This time in a hand dyed fi*****ng weight yarn from that I bought back in March 2020. The colourway is ‘champagne supernova’ and I love it!! Caked up, I’ll admit it looks a bit of a weird choice for me. But it has these incredible pops of colour: pink, cream, blue, purple, and loads of greens. I can’t get enough of it, and I can’t wait to see it finished up as a ranunculus soon! I’m making a size 3, because it has plenty of ease for me, so I should be able to go and go and go until the yarn runs out!

11/07/2024

These are my final gift socks, so I’ll be keeping them black and white until the recipient has them. But trust me, they’re great!

The yarn is ’s Zauberball - which I picked up at 🧶 As says, this yarn makes socks that are sisters, not twins!

The pattern is .lee.knits’ Weekend Shorties which I’ve used and loved before 🥰

Details on my 🥰

I picked up these buttons from .orry.mill on a visit earlier this year. I had them on another cardigan, but I never ever wear that one closed. I think I’ll mainly wear this one open too, but it sits beautifully closed so it’s nice to have the option!

Pattern: Lauder Cardigan from .creabea
Yarn: Saltaire in Squirrel (hey Sirdar can you make this in a dark green because it’s so soft and affordable!)

Photos from Knackie Knits's post 09/07/2024

My ripple worsted crop top is technically finished, but I think I want to make it into a bodysuit?! I have yarn to use up because this was knit in stash yarn I bought from Jenners’ haberdashery 😳

I’m not sure about the join yet. I tried a technique where you pick up inbetween stitches. I think it works perfectly for shoulder seams, but not so well with 3x3 rib. Can I live with it as a feature, or do I want to try mattress stitch? We will all have to wait and see because I only have 8 rows left of my Lauder sleeve so that’s back at the top of the pile today! 😂

06/07/2024

One sleeve down! I wanted a balloon sleeve, so I worked all my decreases right before the cuff. I maintained the essence of the cables as far as possible, and I’m really happy with how it looks!

🧶

Yarn: Saltaire in Squirrel (an acrylic alpaca mix - super soft, great stitch definition, and so affordable)
Pattern: Cardigan from .creabea with a few tweaks

30/06/2024

Back to working on something for me! This is my from .creabea, but I’ve cropped the body and extended the ribbing a fair bit. I was really taken by the Shepherd’s Daughter cardigan from but I already owned the Lauder pattern, so a mash up has been born!

24/06/2024

So very nearly finished this traditional Shetland baby shawl commission! 67 hours of work so far, with about an hour left to finish the final few inches of edging, seam the edging up, and then wash and block the shawl out!

17/06/2024

It’s been a little quiet around here because I’m working on a big commission with a tight schedule 👶🏻There are about 65 hours of work in a Shetland baby shawl like this and I only knit in my spare time. But, not many people make traditional shawls by hand any more, and I’m a people pleaser at heart, so I couldn’t say no!

24/05/2024

I can’t get enough of this .and.ply yarn. The combo was one of the “This Year I’m Staying In” Hogmanay sets - le coin de feu - and it is so beautiful in this tee from .and.pine.designs ❤️

11/05/2024

Happy to report the sticky fingers only reached these latest gift socks after they’d made it on to the recipient’s (giant) feet!!

Toes time!

SOS Basic Sock from .lee.knits in a beautiful skein ❤️

I got this Kidsilk Haze in a pack from John Lewis in the Boxing Day sales. I knew straight away it was going to be paired with a brown/beige alpaca yarn my LYS . I wanted to use it in a 1x1 colourwork like all the beautiful seaglass patterns from .and.pine.designs. But rather than a seaglass tee, I wanted to try the Tolsta Tee pattern from .creabea because it’s so versatile. Excitingly the Tolsta is getting a bust shaping update! I’ve applied to test it, and whether I do or not, this yarn is going to be a bust shaped Tolsta in the style of a Seaglass one day soon because I’ve done the work for the 1x1 colourwork and I’m obsessed!!
Photo 1: the final colourwork order
Photo 2: the colours individually
Photo 3: the maths behind the colourwork order (I’ll go into more detail on the Ravelry project page, DM me if you can’t use Rav)
Photo 4: the original go at a colourwork order and playing around with yarn dominance options (the rows most recently worked hold the alpaca contrast colour as dominant and I think that’s nicest, so that’s what’s going on in all of photo 1!)

29/04/2024

My other acquisition at was a magnetic chart reader from . I love it so much. I’ve already picked up two projects that have been sitting in time out because managing the charts while watching the kids is a bit much. So long as the kids aren’t stealing my cool new toy, I can glance at my row and jump in and out much easier!

26/04/2024

I won the lottery at today - 3 complimentary skeins from the sale case that will become a by .creabea one day! (Hopefully one day soon but you all know that my queue is already 18 plus items and the kiddos aren’t getting any less full on any time soon 😵‍💫)

15/04/2024

This is this month’s reimagined yarn club. Excitingly, it’s also my first purchase for my family sized sofa blanket!! It will be paired with a neutral Cascade Heritage, as yet unpicked, and will become a Fly Away blanket from TinCan Knits in the half and half style, just like the Sweet Shop blanket by Laura Penrose! Ultimately it’ll be a 2 Kg blanket, so one purchase down… so many to go 😂

06/03/2024

Final touches on my and it’s off to the owner ❤️

04/03/2024

Still a little damp in parts, but this baby blanket is on the blocking mats and almost ready to ship! It’s a from , knit in snuggly dk ❤️

15/02/2024

Can’t get enough of the colours in this - the yarn is Snuggly DK, perfect for a cosy baby blanket 🥰

05/02/2024

While I’m waiting on my yarn delivery for the Fly Away Blanket commission, I’m cracking on with my - just about half way through the body now 🥰

04/02/2024

Just waiting on the post and then I can get cracking on my next commission: a from ❤️

My very talented mum has the patience of a saint, so she can use a sewing machine. (Yes, per minute worked knitting takes longer, but there’s not so much down time waiting to change threads or get the tension fixed or work out why the machine is having a hissy fit, so I think of knitting as faster!). Frank and Cora have two onsies, a pair of dungarees, and a nappy in this print. Now that Cora’s outgrown the 0-3 onsie, my mum has transformed it into a DPN holder for me 💞

Finally, some finished object photos of my from , thanks 📸
