Sometimes what you're looking for is already within you ๐
๐ง Starting its journey from the brainstem and stretching all the way down through the neck, chest, and belly the vagus nerve has the task of controling our 'rest and digest' function of the nervous system.
๐ง It helps regulate various bodily functions, including heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, and certain reflex actions.
๐ง Stimulating the vagus nerve can have several potential benefits, as it is involved in promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and improving overall well-being.
๐ During a massage session, we can assist you to achieve deep relaxation by stimulating your vagus nerve with gentle strokes around your neck and head, that can send you spinning into a world of zen and chill. ๐ง
I get a lot of questions about what is it exactly that I do ๐ค
๐ฑWhat is holistic massage?
๐ฑWhat is reflexology?
Take a look here ๐
These are only a few of the wonderful comments and reviews I have received from people while practicing massage therapy.
If you want to experience any of these benefits let me know :)
Machi massage is now in Edinburgh!
๐ It has taken me a while to find a place I can call my home, but after leaving this city twice, and having twice come back, I am now certain this is where I belong.
๐ Machi massage has been getting some background work in the mean time, as I feel like taking the time to cultivate a loving relationship with my own self, through things like active imagination, dream work and meditation, always helps when it comes to assisting others feel better.
But I am now ready for the next challenge with some nice surprises in store!
Contact me if you'd like to book a massage with me. In the meantime enjoy the sun!!!!

Use every adversity to create something new, a way out that you can benefit from.
Find your gift and give it back ๐ชท
Give yourself the right kind of love. Nourishing, protective and caring love.
With every step I take in life I create purpose. I move through life with intention in my heart. I aim towards a conscious existence, a path of awareness and wellness.
I want to share that with you, bring about positive change in your life, your body and your soul.
Massage is just one way of self care but there are many more you can practice today. For example, give yourself the space you need, rest, have a bath, dance a little.
Fill your life with as many little happy moments as you can. Time is limited, don't waste it.
Machi Massage
I get many people coming for a massage that present ailments that their doctor has not found a solution or a cure for. This is because many such people reach out to try to find complementary therapies that will help them in a different, alternative way and also because they need to understand their condition better, from different angles and perspectives.
๐ชทAlthough Western medicine is obviously important and in its own right and the authority when it comes to diagnosing and treating, many times the system falls short and people are left with more questions than answers.
๐ชทI started visiting complementary therapy doctor's about 10 years ago, for an issue the public health care system did not find a solution. I begun to understand the connection my condition had with the rest of my life, my emotions, thoughts and state of mind played such a huge role in what I was going through medically.
๐ชทOne of my main issues at that time, was that I was at a point in life in which I felt lost, like I had no purpose. The Chinese medicine doctor I was visiting at that time told me not to leave this world 'without planting a seed'. I still remember those words and what a strong impact they had on me. That's where my journey of helping people started, why I am studying what I am studying and why I created Machi Massage.
So if you feel lost, maybe take a moment to think of which kind of seed we wish to plant in this world, and once you do, begin your journey by planting it and seeing where the rest of the path takes you.

What is holistic massage?
Holistic massage students spend a lot of their time studying all the biological systems in the human body and the connections between them.
๐ฟTake for example, the digestive system, just as an example. When we learn about the digestive system, we learn that most of its functions are controlled by a part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system. This branch of the NS controls parts of our body that work automatically, independently of our conscious input.
๐ฟBut the central nervous system is itself divided into two branches: the sympathetic, and the parasympathetic branches. The parasympathetic branch takes control when the body is relaxed and promotes digestion, meanwhile the sympathetic branch has the function inducing of our 'fight or flight' stress response and it acts by inhibiting digestion.
๐ฟ If we experience what is called 'chronic stress' our digestive system becomes continuously affected in time, and therefore chronic digestive problems can arise.
๐ฟFor a holistic massage therapist it is important to understand this: that every part of our body is connected to another, in this case, our digestive system is controlled by the events of our nervous system. In this example, by promoting relaxation through massage therapy we can re-activate the parasympathetic division of our nervous system and work on the consequences of the misalignments of the inner balance.
You can read about the effects of massage on the parasympathetic branch here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19283590/

Ever tried foot reflexology?
Reflexology has been proven to have many health benefits including: decreased heart rate and respiratory rate, lowering blood pressure and increasing pulse oxygen saturation.
The science behind reflexology states that the extremities of our bodies are the last spots our nerve endings reach, and by activating these nerve ends through palpation we can affect the rest of our bodies. That is why reflexology can be practiced on our feet, hands and even our ears!

Let's love our bodies, not only, or not necessarily because of how they look but because they are our hosts, the home of our sensations, of our emotions.
๐งโโ๏ธLet's try practicing for one day to be grateful for this home, this body that takes us places, this body that lets us know when something is wrong, either through pain or a sense of turmoil in our hearts, this body that has been with us throughout the good and the bad, without abandoning us, always there, always loyal.
๐คธโโ๏ธThis body that entices us to look after ourselves, this body that grows older and in which we can see our life experiences in every wrinkle or every scar.
๐ถโโ๏ธLet's love our bodies because they are us, they protect us, they transport us, always working to keep us alive, pointing towards choices that are good for us.
โฃ๏ธLet's practice gratitude to our bodies for one day, not for how they look, but for what their loyalty means to us. Befriend your body, it's your home and your companion.

A bit about myself,
I am a qualified massage therapist originally born in Chile but have spent most of my life abroad, visiting and living in all sorts of interesting places.
Eventually I landed in Scotland, a land I now call my home. In Edinburgh I took a year to study Holistic Therapeutic Massage at the School of Holistic Therapy.
It was a fulfilling course, in which I learned a lot about how to treat patients with care, empathy and also all the clinical knowledge needed to treat all varieties of conditions in a way that can create a deep positive impact in people's well being. I then worked in private practice and volunteered as a massage therapist in a non profit organisation.
I am currently pursuing clinical studies in University of Strathclyde and working part time in massage.
I love my work, it is infinitely rewarding to see the changes and improvements on people's well being after a good massage session. I simply cannot imagine myself undertaking any professional project in which I would not be helping people feel better and assisting them improve their quality of life.
๐Machis are the female spiritual leaders and shamans of the indigenous tribes of Chile and Argentina. They are the ones approached by other tribe members for advice due to their vast knowledge of medicinal herbs, treatments and the powers of the spiritual world. For centuries machis have been at the centre of the cultural life of the mapuche people having the role of leaders and healers for their fellow tribe members.
๐Now, I am far from being a Machi or a shaman myself, however the blood of the mapuche people runs through my veins and I like to think that some of their wisdom runs through them too. I wanted to honour this heritage by naming my massage enterprise 'Machi Massage', and hopefully come at least a bit close to being as wise, healing and approachable as a machi.
๐Come and enjoy with me the beautiful journey of healing.
