Hidden Bothy Designs
Creating modern furniture inspired by the Scottish Landscape Why wouldn't you want to spend time in the Scottish outdoors?
We'll pretend the wind, rain and midges don't exist! But the truth is, it's these harsh elements which shape the landscape and create the spectacular scenery that is revealed when the clouds clear.
This environment has been inspiring people for centuries, and we are no different. Hidden Bothy was founded out of a desire to create modern, stylish and unique furniture inspired by the rugged Scotti
What has Harris spotted?….
We know we’ve been pretty quiet on here since our pop up shop. It was far more successful than we expected and kept us busy over the summer fulfilling custom orders.
But things have been progressing and we’ve got some exciting news coming up. Watch this space for more information…
And that’s a wrap! 👏👏👏
We had such a ball running a pop-up shop at and are already discussing our next one!
We’re back to lounging around in the middle of the day* and enjoying the Scottish summer.
*Not really… We will very soon get back to work making furniture for all of the lovely people that have placed orders in the past week! For today at least, we’re enjoying a little bit of down time.
Thank you so much for your support 🙏 and for coming to visit, and for all of our new followers! It wouldn’t have been the same without you.

(The beautiful print blanket in the picture is woven on Bute, for sale online from - we love it!)
We hope you are outside enjoying the beautiful weather today...Harris is looking forward to his evening run already!
We’ve had an amazing week here at and are only open for another couple of hours (we close at 4pm today).
It’s been so nice to actually meet some of our customers and chat to them about our furniture and how we can customise it for their spaces.
We’ve felt really welcomed into the local business community and will definitely be looking to come back.
For now, you can find us on our website...please do get in touch to chat to us if there is anything we can do to bring a sense of wild Scotland into your home.
Time to head up a hill and enjoy a 🍺 in the sunshine!

The Ben Damph bench has been turning heads all week...the stunning grain of the ash is complemented perfectly by the vivid Sutherland Sunset fabric.
The name is inspired by our recent trip to visit the seriously impressive new house being built . The bench has a shoe rack and storage for gloves, scarves, sunglasses etc. under the seat. Perfect after a long day out in the Torridon hills!
We are already building a couple of different versions of this bench, with dimensions, fabrics and storage solutions specific to each customer’s space. Get in touch if you’d like to discuss the options with us.

Have you got plans for the weekend? We’ve really enjoyed our week so far but we’re only here for two more days!
The weather’s looking great and the is taking place on Sunday morning, so why not visit the market then pop in to see us afterwards?
We’re open at tomorrow 10-7 and Sunday 10-4. See you there!
@ Space at Seventeen
Another great day complete at and the week is flying by!
Hello to all of our new followers too - we’re so happy you have joined us! We are so grateful for all of your support and enthusiasm for what we are creating 💛 and it’s really good to finally show the world what we have been working so hard at over the past few months.
Only three days left of the pop-up shop in Stockbridge so we hope to see you there if you haven’t made it yet!

Sometimes you’ve just got to let the natural materials do the talking. The grain on this Scottish Ash is just stunning.
This is our Liathach Coffee Table, part of our Torridon collection. Inspired by the giant mountains, rugged coastline and stunning scenery of the north west of Scotland.
The ash is locally and sustainably sourced from ...we make the most of what nature provides and have the easy job of creating a design to show it off.
This table has been turning heads in our pop up shop. Come and see it for yourself in ...we are only open until Sunday.
Thanks so much to stockbridgeedinburgh.com for kindly sharing news of our pop-up shop on their website! It's a wonderful place to find out what's going on in the Stockbridge community, definitely worth a visit 📣⭐️

We’ve been a bit quiet recently...but rest assured we’ve been busy behind the scenes and have some exciting announcements coming up...
The first is that as of this weekend we were able to upgrade the location for our business meetings for the day...and it felt sooo good!
We hope you all managed to get your fix of sunshine and fresh air this weekend as well.
We’ve got another announcement tomorrow...and we’re pretty excited about this one!
@ Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve
We can't wait until this is possible again...

Although, we are hoping there will be more of the current sunshine before the summer is out!
Where function meets form...say hello to the new Bothy Boot Rack.
Handcrafted from locally sourced Scottish Oak this boot and shoe rack is just what is needed after a long day in the hills.
The wood is finished in Osmo Polyx oil, a hard wearing product which both brings out the natural grain of the wood but will also withstand the wettest of trail shoes and muddiest of boots.
A quick hello to all of our new followers! We (Duncan and Alice) are so pleased you have joined us. We’ve been keeping busy this weekend making more of our Caerketton Stool - pictured here in Lochnagar Grey - and of course enjoying the beautiful sunshine too with a cycle around the countryside near Edinburgh and a long walk in the Pentlands with . Wishing you all a happy Sunday!
Our Carnethy stool doubles up perfectly as a simple bedside table. Made with solid oak, each stool has unique natural details and variety of grain which we love!
Hello everyone, Alice and Duncan here! We just wanted to introduce ourselves and say a very big welcome to all of our new followers after Erin kindly shared our story. We started this little business in January and are so excited to see where it takes us! When we’re not making furniture, Duncan is busy working full time as a doctor and I (Alice) am studying architecture. We’ve been slowly converting part of our flat into a workshop/studio which has been fun and a challenge in itself!
Mustn’t forget our little sidekick, who is always with us.
We don’t just make furniture - we both love the Scottish hills and are planning to share our adventures with you all too.
We love hearing from you so feel free to get in touch if you have any suggestions/requests for new designs or adventures!
@ Edinburgh, United Kingdom
We’ve been curling up with some good books this afternoon and dreaming of adventures to come! We really can’t wait for this current lockdown to be eased so we can get back into the Scottish mountains at the weekends. Feels like it is on the horizon now 🤞
Behind the scenes...trying to take photos which convey the quality of the materials we are lucky to be working with. Making progress towards the launch of the Pentland Collection.
With close supervision by quality control manager ...although he clearly has faith in us as he’s sleeping on the job 🐶😴

We shared the Allermuir bench with you yesterday...and here’s the hill it’s named after. The highest of the northern Pentlands, it has a great position overlooking the city.

I love the shape of the snowdrop flowers and we’re already planning a table lamp inspired by these hardy little plants. After all their appearance serves as a reminder that brighter days are ahead.
Meanwhile, work continues on the Pentland Collection and we can’t wait to share the full range with you soon!
The Carnethy stool is a versatile little piece of furniture, with a removable seat pad so you can use it as a side table too. The seat pad is attached with two leather straps (our favourite feature!) so you can remove it quickly and easily.
