Can I convert my original sash windows to double glazed?

Yes, in most cases you can convert your original sash windows to double glazing. The only constraint is the depth of your sash. They will need to be at least 35mm. It is possible to double glaze existing sash windows using both standard and thin double glazed units. Typically double glazing original sash windows costs less than half of entire replacement sash windows. Generally the benefits of using the original sash far outweighs in terms of cost. If it’s not possible to make use of the original sash then it’s still possible to re-use the original box frame and manufacture new sashes to fit.

Whilst draught proofing sash windows, we provide new furniture as part of the cost. We offer a Brighton fastener and sash lifts in Brass, Chrome, or Satin. We prefer Brighton fasteners over Fitch catches because a Brighton fastener operates on the basis of tightening, and screwing together. This brings meeting rails together more firmly than a latch that merely slides over, securing the sashes. We advocate the use of brush pile over foam strips because it is our twenty years experience that foam perishes far more quickly than brush pile. If foam is damp and then compressed. It is far slower to spring back. It has far more memory than pile. It is not so forgiving on old windows with varying gap widths. Brush pile fits uneven gaps far more effectively.

When draught proofing sash windows we must consider that our joinery maybe 120 years old or more and tolerances of this nature are expected. Foam is far better suited to new joinery, and used for this application I would suggest as an insulator equally as good as brush pile, if not, marginally better.

- we prep area with carpet protection dust sheets
Polystyrene sheets.

-we remove all curtains, blinds from the area where working

- remove furniture making a space for to work safely, we always use 2 guys to move furniture to make sure nothing is scraped or broken,

- after removing everything and making sure all sheets down etc we make sure we number windows so windows go back same place if it’s a refurb

- we make sure all windows are in place after every day.

- if we have 2 or 3 guys working onsite we will do one room at a time so no rooms are half done,

- we make sure all windows are completely finished before moving to another room.

-after shift we make sure all area’s clean and tidy so the customer thinks there actual hasn’t been builders in your house hold

-yes we have our own wee Henry to keep work area clean and tidy at all times
