END OF AN ERA. This says it all. The last video shop in Edinburgh will officially close it's doors at the end of this month to rental and sales. It has been a privilege to have served the Asian community of Edinburgh for over 30 years, but now it is time to move on in a different direction.
I have made a lot of friends over the years even had customers from the Shetland Islands ,Aberdeen, Dundee and from all over the world as far as Australia to purchase movies. Had film students from Napier University making short movies as part of there course work on numerous occasions throughout the years. Even appeared on the big screen before the start of films in the FILMHOUSE , sponsored the local cricket team , organised a stage show which had Amanullah as the star of the show with 2 days notice. A supporter of the Edinburgh Mela when it first began way back in 1994 as a ticket seller. Started DVD rental way back in 1998 became the third biggest Asian video shop in Scotland .Also became the chairman of the Pakistani Traders Association in 1998. But the list is endless but all I can say is I HAD A BLAST. Video Mahal will still continue on in the field of film duplication and film transfer and more recently the shop has branched out into sending cargo for customers to Pakistan on a regular basis which I started way back in 2016 and still do to this day. But with a heavy heart it is now time to say a GOODBYE forever....

Finished refurbishing the tired old VIDEO MAHAL sign couple of days ago and spent an awkward 2 hours today putting up the 2nd half of the sign by myself with no help already had lot of people complementing the stunning new colour scheme and is already the most noticeable sign in the street from a distance.......

In 1997 VIDEO MAHAL sponsored the PAKISTANI ASSOCIATION of EDINBURGH cricket club.....

Half of the outside VIDEO MAHAL sign fell down during the winter storms decided to revamp it completely with a new colour scheme in keeping with the old one new colour scheme will be florescent yellow and florescent red already looks stunning in the day time light........

I get asked all the time by customers which is the worst movie you have in your entire film collection in the shop well my good friends i only have one answer and that is ASHIQANA starring Gurcharan Gossal he was the actor who appeared in all those annoying Gifto Cash & Carry ad's during the late 80's & 90's the film is so bad that it has never ever gone out on hire in the the 25 YEAR history of VIDEO MAHAL........
