“Swan Lake” collection is inspired by a ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875–1876. The scenario, initially in four acts, was fashioned from Russian folk tales and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. The tragedy of “Swan Lake” is its tale of metamorphosis: the heroine must alternate between swan and human form. Not only this great ballet changed all balled history, but tells a great transformation and love story. This sad story of star-crossed lovers is one of the most memorable in the history of theatre. It is comparable with Romeo and Juliet in its portrayal of the vicissitudes that are endured when love is opposed. We can, however, take comfort in the notion that great love can endure, even after death. The fate of Von Rothbart and Odile also tells us that evil will only triumph so far. In our age that is something we really need to remember.
