Here’s some wine inspiration for the week ahead.

An interesting white full of character & superb red from v reliable producer - both cracking value.

Domaine Carneros was v popular at last week - def one for the festive season.

Great to see Port of Leith Distillery featured this week too. If you’ve not yet visited the hottest place in town it’s time you did!

Good wine list in the bar too!

Not only is next Friday the start of December but it’s also the start of Lidl’s Festive Tour!

A treat and an honour to attend Eurus' inaugural tasting.

A simply stunning pair of wines hailing from the Tibetan Himalayas.

Imagine the challenges involved; not just growing vines at this altitude & with no rain forecast from October to February each year but the pure logistics before these wines even leave China of getting them to the coast.

Célèbre are certainly beautiful premium wines - these two were of course unmistakably Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Yet there was an incredible perfume which the Zhan brothers who joined us live by video attributed to the extraordinarily long growing season. Beautiful fruit, elegance and precision.

Our suggestions ranged from Super Tuscan to Napa Cab & high altitude New World.

Looking forward to seeing & hearing more & wishing Arthur, Jamie & John all the best with Eurus and their mission to bring more fascinating wines like these to us.

Delighted to be back at The Torridon with my new bespoke wine courses and spend a couple of days with a great team.

It’s always a pleasure to visit with so much to do and see for everyone whatever their interest. Naturally at the end of the day exploring the great outdoors or reading a book by the roaring log fire the 1887 restaurant is an experience not to be missed. The only challenge being which of the many wines to choose. However, that’s where The Torridon’s Tasting Menu comes in to play which certainly has to be one of the best in the Highlands.

Having seen and worked with the team behind the scenes there’s a great deal of work and consideration which goes in to ensuring these food and wine pairings perform perfectly. It’s great theatre.

A beautiful spot and of course with the Autumn colours giving it that extra sparkle. A few deer too.

A truly insightful visit to Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.

Repeating the official name for this premium Prosecco might be a challenge and perhaps it can be likened to the challenge and hard work which goes into producing these superb sparkling wines.

Having taken a walk up into the Veneto hills on the afternoon I arrived and later seen the sun set and moon rise, it was clear there was nothing ordinary about this beautiful region with its steep hillsides.
🥂
As you can imagine most of the vineyard work is done by hand - there's no chance of machine harvesters scaling these steep hillsides.
🇮🇹
Many of these producers are families who have cared for their vineyards for generations. The chance of some of the older generations retiring from vineyard work is slim. They're hard grafters who will go on forever.

So what really makes Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG so special?
🇮🇹
The terroir, microclimate, vineyard management, attention to detail, people and of course the magic of this beautiful region all these play their part. However, at the end of the day, the proof is in the glass, so have a taste for yourself soon.

If like mine your hydrangeas are fading along with all other colour in your garden then you’ll enjoy this.

Laithwaite’s Blanc de Cabernet Brut is part of their Kew Series which highlights forgotten varietals with the aim of encouraging plant diversity around the world.

This delicious sparkling white from Moldova is made using red Cabernet Sauvignon and will be sure to bring back summer memories.

Deliciously elegant with plenty of floral aromas and characters and a touch of white peach.
