Dawn Oei returns to Shoreline on Monday, 16th September (11am to 12noon).

Join her for ‘Do-In’ or ‘self shiatsu’ exercises.

This gentle practice will include stretches (Makko Ho) to strengthen and support the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connect with our inner balance.

Explore releasing hip pain and tension using MFR to understand how a free moving pelvis affects us from head to toe.

We have a new class starting at Shoreline this month. Shiatsu practitioner Dawn Oei will be teaching a 'Do-In' class.

Join us this Friday to celebrate International Yoga Day with a pranayama class, taught by Katie Rutherford online.

The class is open to anyone regularly attending an Iyengar yoga class. To do the class from home, you will need some yoga kit but if you don’t have it, you can opt to join Lucy in the studio and do it there and use our equipment.

Restorative class with Lucy, Friday 24 May, 6-7.30 pm. At the studio, all equipment provided.

This class will look at how the breath changes in different asana, with a focus on supported restorative asana which can be held for a longer time. This class will show you how to quieten your mind, turn your attention inwards and soothe your nerves. It will leave you feeling rested and calm and better able to deal with life.

A restorative practice is an important part of the Iyengar system but it is so much more than just lying around on bolsters! Both body and mind should usually be prepared by a more active practice before you start to learn restorative poses, to develop the necessary sensitivity.

Open to anyone attending a regular Iyengar yoga class.

You don’t need to be able to touch your toes to come to Yoga. There are spaces on Wednesday mornings at Shoreline for our ‘Ease into Yoga’ class.
In this class we prioritise finding ease and space in the body.

Katie and Lucy will be teaching a workshop mainly on sarvangasana and the family of asanas relating to it…..setubhanda, chair sarvangasana, viparita karani, chatooshpadasana to name a few. In Intermediate and General classes, and Continuing Beginners classes, you are expected to know how to set up the props and work in these asanas but we appreciate that in regular classes it is not always possible to spend a lot of time on this. It’s a great opportunity for those of you who come to these levels of classes to get more confidence in your understanding of this wonderful asana.

Regular practice of inversions is absolutely vital – they give extraordinary benefits, not least keeping your immune system healthy. Dr Geeta S Iyengar observed that sometimes practitioners omit inversions and had strong feelings on the subject – “it is absolutely wrong and unpardonable. Inversions are the backbone of the practice of asanas. One may miss the other asanas due to lack of time, but should not miss the regular practice of inversions, except during menstruation. Inversions control the metabolism of the body, keep a check on blood pressure, maintain glucose levels and chemical balance. They yield emotional balance, stimulate the intellectual centre and refresh the mind”.
