Arika
We think of art as a relationship that constantly unfolds in the realm of the common, a process and a continuum. More about us here http://arika.org.uk/about-us
We see our role in this unfolding relationship as celebrating and supporting connections between art and social change. When we say art, we mean the ways we sing and dance together, the ways we listen and want to be heard, how we look and hope to be seen, how we think of our bodies and how we move through space, how we feel and want to be felt, for example. We currently do this through a programme

Arika presents Episode 11: To End the World As We Know It
Tramway, Glasgow
Wednesday 13 - Sunday 17 November 2024
Is this world coming to an end?
Can we start to know and practice the world to come?
Episode 11 brings together five days of film, performance, music, discussion and study to think through our collective incompleteness—arrayed against the ecological and social devastations of a capitalistic, colonial and imperialist worldview that has been obliterating other worlds for over 400 years— to practice how we might exist otherwise, right here and now.
This year’s programme will include contributions from: Ailton Krenak | Karrabing Film Collective | Elizabeth Povinelli | Leanne Betasamosake Simpson | Robyn Maynard | Denise Ferreira da Silva | Ayreen Anastas & Rene Gabri | Houria Bouteldja | Beatriz Santiago Muñoz | Emilia Beatriz | Geni Núñez | Mezna Qato & Sadia Shirazi | Hussein Mitha | Ligia Lewis | Amilcar Packer
Music programme in collaboration with Counterflows: Chuquimamani-Condori | Rashad Becker | Sunik Kim | Nat Raha & Ailie Ormston
Full programme will be announced later in September, with tickets on sale in October. 💙

Arika joins over 80 Scottish organisations in an open letter to express our grave and deep concern over the Scottish Government’s failure to provide certainty surrounding the £6.6 million Grant in Aid budget for Creative Scotland, resulting in the abrupt closure of the Open Fund for Individuals, the primary route to public funding for Scottish Artists to develop their projects.
The resilience of Scotland’s cultural sector is not infinite. Artists cannot continue to bear the burden of delayed and inadequate support. We strongly urge the Scottish Government to recognise the severity of this situation and take immediate action to release the necessary funds to Creative Scotland, allowing the Open Fund for Individuals to be reinstated.

UPCOMING EVENT: A Global Feminist Critique of Capital: Reflecting on Fanon, Federici, Spillers, and Spivak - In-Person & Live-streamed
Thursday 28 March
17:00 - 19:00 EST+1 (New York Time)
21:00 - 23:00 GMT (UK Time)
Join us for a conversation between Silvia Federici, Hortense Spillers and Gayatri C. Spivak moderated by Denise Ferreira da Silva and Paula Chakravartty.
This conversation approaches a critique of global capitalism, through reflection on the analysis of colonial and racial violence advanced by the anticolonial political philosopher Frantz Fanon and those put forward by our guests, three of the most influential contemporary feminist thinkers: political theorist Silvia Federici, black critical theorist Hortense Spillers, and postcolonial literary theorist Gayatri C. Spivak.
The free event will be in-person with the participants at Performance Space New York and also live-streamed online. RSVP for both here https://bit.ly/43wmPk4
The in-person event will have ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation.
Excited to be part of this event; presented by CRACS Co-Lab (Critical Racial Anti-Colonial Study Co-Lab at NYU) in collaboration with Arika amongst others and hosted by Performance Space New York.
