By popular demand we have extended the vegan choices on our menu from today:

Full Vegan breakfast including Which? Magazine’s Best Buy Miami sausages and McSween’s vegan haggis
Dairy free overnight steel cut oats with chia seeds and choice of fruit
Vegan yoghurt granola, toasted almonds, chia seeds & choice of fruit
Vegan pancakes
Chef Maja’s home-made vegan Mac ‘n’ Cheese

While more than half our menu choices are now vegan or vegetarian, our Full Scottish Breakfast and Fully Filled Roll choices continue, with lean, back bacon, premium pork sausage and haggis supplied by local butcher Campbell’s.

Our menu is new but our prices are unchanged.

Just up the road from us. The cannonball is still there, however it arrived.

Cannonball House

This is a super detail from a George Washington Wilson glass slide showing the gable of Cannonball House on Castlehill. The name 'Cannonball House' is derived from the cannonball that is stuck into the wall (between the bottom ledge of the upper large window and the top edge of the lower large window). It is very clear here and looks only recently cemented.

The likeliest story as to why the cannonball is there is to mark the exact height above sea-level of the Comiston reservoir which provided Edinburgh with piped supply of fresh water.

It is nothing to do with a drunken One o'clock gunner or Bonnie Prince Charlie's stay down at Holyrood in 1745 or Mary Queen of Scots exuberance throwing a skittle ball.

Thanks to George Ferguson for this detail.

Beautiful shot of the cafe from the distance

The Lone Piper

This is a shot I have been planning for a long time. There were so many elements required to achieve this, almost all of which were out of my control. In fact, there was a period, after a few months, where I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen at all. Following a few failed attempts I finally got the conditions I was looking for, along with a piper up for the challenge at very short notice.
