Before and after. Our client asked us to relocate the kitchen to a smaller space in the property to allow the existing kitchen to be an additional bedroom. We created this new kitchen by removing load bearing walls of an adjacent boxroom, installing supporting steel beams, and blocked up the doorways, to create an open plan livingroom and kitchen area.

With summer upon us it can be a challenge for residents in Edinburgh to keep ourselves cool indoors. Luckily, sash and case windows can help! Here are some tips for maximizing the effectiveness of your sash windows during the summer heat:

- Open your sash windows equally at the top and bottom to maximize the flow of air.
- Leave your sash windows in the mid-position overnight, if it's safe to do so, to allow cool external air to flush out warm air and cool the walls, floor, and ceiling.
- Use your sash windows to introduce fresh air and regulate airflow, which can contribute to maintaining a more comfortable indoor environment by mitigating the effects of excessive heat.

Just keep in mind that the building will be at its hottest around 2pm to 3pm, so opening your windows during this time may not be as effective. Stay cool, Edinburgh!
