Puppy love ❤️
It's always a privilege to do a puppy visit as we're insuring the puppy gets right start.
Crate training is about making the crate interesting. No need to place them in but allow them to find a crate interesting.
This little guy is cute and smart.
Setup the environment right and the hope is they do not feel forced. Looking forward to seeing this little one going forward.
Rally - Have a Go session
We had a lovely session just give a little taster of what Rally is all about.
This is not about fast movement more about learning and teaching your dog some cool moves.
We had a laugh trying to remember our left and right and a circle can make us dizzy 😆
With the wind blow the letters away, lesson learnt to me.
If you are interested then classes will be available going forward.
Message me if interested and you will be set details
My little Romanian is amazing but its not been a fast process and when adopting any dog you need to be mindful of what potential pitfalls can happen.
Dog's do not come pre-programmed. The need time, patience and a good level of knowledge. Winging it just might not cut it.
Adopting a Romanian rescue dog can be a rewarding experience, but there are several challenges that potential adopters should be aware of. Some of the common issues include:
1. **Behavioral Challenges**: Many Romanian rescue dogs have had difficult lives, often involving abuse, neglect, or long periods of living as strays. This can lead to issues such as fear, anxiety, aggression, or difficulty adjusting to a home environment.
2. **Health Problems**: These dogs might have health issues due to inadequate care, poor nutrition, or exposure to diseases while on the streets or in shelters. Common problems include parasites, skin conditions, and untreated injuries.
3. **Lack of Socialiation**: Due to their background, Romanian rescue dogs may not be well-socialized with people, other dogs, or everyday situations like traffic, loud noises, or household routines. This can make the transition to a new home challenging.
4. **House Training**: Many rescue dogs from Romania have not lived in a home before, so they might not be familiar with basic house training. Patience and consistent training are required to help them learn.
5. **Cultural and Environmental Adjustment**: Romanian rescue dogs may struggle to adjust to a new environment, especially if they were used to being in rural or isolated areas. They may be overwhelmed by the sights, sounds, and smells of a new country or urban environment.
If you live in a city then tell the rescue and ask how the dog was found.
6. **Attachment and Separation Anxiety**: Some rescue dogs may develop strong attachments to their new owners, leading to separation anxiety when left alone. This can manifest in destructive behavior or excessive barking.
7. **Expectations vs. Reality**: New owners might have unrealistic expectations about how quickly a rescue dog will adjust or how much work is involved. It’s important to be prepared for a potentially long adjustment period.
8. **Cat tested** this needs to be check how the rescue test if a dog is suitable in a home. Cat testing may not be the same thinking as ours. So ask questions, has the dog lived free with a cat. You could be very surprised to find out some methods they use.
Adopting a Romanian rescue dog requires patience, understanding, and often professional guidance, but with the right approach, these dogs can become loyal and loving companions.

It does not take much for a dog to over heat.

Tonight I've got windows open, fans on and cool vest on my dogs as there struggling with this heat.
Do not risk, keep your dogs safe.

Selecting a trainer!
Scottish weather can be a little unpredictable which we know. Our homes can be warmer in the summer just as much as outside.
Heatstroke can occur very unexpectedly so be mindfulness of this.
Worth reading to be aware of how quick heatstroke can occur.
Shorten walks
Walk in areas of tree
If water is around let them paddle be careful of too much swimming
Stop the ball throwing or at least reduce.
Walk when its a little cooler

What makes a bad trainer?
There are many reason but if you meet a client who has come via another trainer and has paid over £2.5k. Still the dog does not know its name! 😯 have any basic learning. Then I call them a bad trainer.
To add insult to injury, call themselves a specialist with zero qualifications.
Charges well over the normal rate.
To me it's unethical.
Bad, bad bad trainer.
Were asked not to name them but this client was screwed for their money. Fantastic client, great abilities so there was no reason why no improvement.
We're now 4 session and what a change. Dogs still excited but now listening and learning.
If anyone knows me, my priority is the dog.
This owner was fleeced, thats only way I can explain it. Fleeced for the money.
We are only human and can make mistakes but no one should pay this kind of money and see no improvements.
Be careful who you seek advice from. Check they have qualifications, check their organisation they are with and if they are not part of the following then run! as it could cost you dearly.

Can your dog do a stay for 1min?
Can they want without jumping on someone
Do you want to try the Good Citizen Bronze.
Date Saturday 28th September. Training Field.
Hope Silver will be 4 weeks later.
If you want to try and know what it's all about then 4 classes will be advertised to help you practice.
Some of the lovely dogs I met this week. Also checkout one of my own dogs and see what he got up too.
Going away with 4 dogs for 4 days and competing can be so stressful for dogs. Today were back home and a quiet day as they have put up with a lot.
Let's just say weather was not greatest near Kendal.
These dogs did great but the joy on seeing them go into there beds when home was heart warming.
What was I doing? Competing again in Rally Obedience.
Peanut did amazing at her first official competition. She got 2 qualifier with one a Excellent.
Jazz was the same. However I had expected maybe more but it was not to be, he is a spaniel so its hard for them not to sniff lol. Think just too much distraction, so will add this to my training plan.
We cannot expect miracles if we don’t train for it.
So back to work and looking forward to next adventure.
Are you looking to get back into training your dog as its been a while.
Sunday Classes start again on 28th July
Two Classes (6 weeks)
Beginners (for adult dogs who have not attended classes or just need to start again)
Big League (dogs which have attended Beginners Adult)

Learning a new sport is always difficult and it reminds me what my clients go through.
Last weekend I attended my first Competition of 2024 at a lovely venue in Northumberland.
We had sunshine, rain, rain and rain. Gun fire in background and local airfield. So everyone did brilliant.
I'm still at lower level so lots more to learn.
Rally is a lovely sport to try out with your dog check it out if interested.
I'm pleased to say Jazz did not too bad for a sniffy spaniel. Like everything practice, practice, practice will make it easier and its great he qualified in all his classes. I need to get my marks higher to be in with ribbons so this is my next target.
Lena update
She is now in a new foster and improving every day and loving having cuddles, walks and fun.
It lovely to see a dog improve every day and I hope she has now got a great life ahead of her.
She still needs a home so if you have space for this cutie or know of anyone.
She would be best with a home and no young children as she will be scared. Someone who just wants lots of cuddles.
