The Scottish Government has failed to address the urgent need for investment in access to justice and legal aid in its 2024-25 Programme for Government. While the Programme includes several positive measures, including ongoing support to reduce court backlogs and funding to better support victims and witnesses of crimes, it fails to properly fund legal aid practitioners. This underfunding risks undermining improvements in the justice system and further eroding access to justice, especially for the most vulnerable in the community.
