The Tamiya Avante 25T Black Special from our great range of radio controlled buggies is a re-release of a Tamiya Radio Control classic!

In March 1988, Tamiya released an electric R/C 4WD racing buggy called the "Avante" and it has since become a special machine in Tamiya"s R/C history. The machine featured a unique shaft-driven 4WD system which was taken from Tamiya"s first 4WD R/C buggy, the Hotshot. It also featured a highly sophisticated design including an FRP double-deck chassis layout, longitudinal motor & battery positions, and a formula-type body with chassis fairing. It was equipped with innovative components such as a compact gearbox with 3 small planetary gears, a centre diff to increase stability, a fully adjustable suspension, and cam-lock wheel caps.

In 2011 the Avante made its return to the Tamiya library of R/C car offerings. It has a few updates, such as universal drive-shafts and machined aluminium uprights, to give the 2011 version increased durability and performance over the original. The Avante was such a distinctive R/C machine, many of its mechanisms have become standard features on modern R/C cars.

Originally conceived as a cheaper, more reliable alternative to the Advanced Passenger Train in the early 1970s, the British Railways Board authorised the development of a prototype High Speed Diesel Train, with two locomotives designated as Class 41. These aerodynamic power cars were constructed by British Railways Engineering Ltd at their Crewe Works and emerged in June and August 1972, fitted with Paxman Valenta 12RP200L engines, developing 2,250 hp.

The power cars, having initially been numbered 41001 and 41002, were later given the coaching stock numbers 43000 and 43001 for operating trials on the Eastern Region and subsequent transfer to the Western Region. Following evaluation and a change of name to High Speed Train, British Rail placed orders for similar trains for use on the Western, Eastern, Scottish and London Midland Regions.

No. 43096 'Stirling Castle' started its working life in an InterCity 125 livery and was named 'The Queen's Own Hussars'. Towards the early 2000s, it was renamed 'The Great Racer' and then 'Stirling Castle'. In 2019, it sported a new LNER red and white livery and was renumbered to 43296. It's now in service for the EMR.

No. 43119 'Harrogate Spa' was originally part of unit 254032 in the Eastern Region, the last such unit assigned to it. Named 'Harrogate Spa' in 2003, a name it carried until 2008 when it was also renumbered to 43319, it is presently in storage after last being in service with East Midland Railway.

The Hornby Class 43 pack includes lights front and rear and well as motorised fans in the roof and a kinomatic coupling system. Fitted with a 5 pole motor and dual flywheels the motor car is all wheel drive. Both units are fitted with 21 pin DCC sockets and pre-fitted dual speakers which allow for the use of sound on DCC as well as offering greater control of the lights and fans.
