We are seeing a lot of uninsulated external pipes and a lack of antifreeze (glycol) in the heating systems that we're visiting recently.

Uninsulated external pipework will be adding to your energy bills and if you are unlucky enough to get a problem with your heat pump that can't be fixed on the day, then a lack of insulation and antifreeze will put your heat pump and external pipework at risk.

On top of these, poor settings and badly setup heating controls can also result in increased energy bills.

Replaced this faulty expansion vessel the other day. It had never been checked and re-pressurised on any previous annual services!

Underfloor heating controls is one of our areas of expertise. In this case we discovered that the original installer hadn't installed a connection between the underfloor heating wiring centre and the heat pump. Flow rate is critical. This Panasonic 9kW heat pump is optimised for 2.9 litres per minute, per kW, or 26.1 litres per minute. The filter on this heat pump was so clogged up it had caused a H62 error message, meaning the flow rate was less than 7 litres per minute. Regular servicing and careful commissioning would prevent this.

Get your heat pump serviced and set-up for the Winter ahead. This heat pump was struggling to achieve a COP of 1.6 before we gave it a good service. Now the customer is all smiles because they will be using half the electric! With a COP of 1.6 they were only getting 1.6kW of heat energy for every 1kW of input electricity, now they will get around 3.75kW of heat energy for every 1kW of input electricity.
