Evening everyone! I hope you’re all having a lovely sunny weekend?
I’m afraid classes won’t be on this week as I have quite a bit on appointment wise in the run up to starting my new chemo regime.
The plan is to start GemCarbo a week on Tuesday. I had the kidney function blood tests on Friday so I’m awaiting the results of those too.
I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused but I look forward to seeing your lovely faces again soon!

Such a funny word.... stretch. You can almost hear it.
Why do we stretch when we exercise anyway? Very simply and mainly to help avoid exercise related injuries and aching. During a workout, lactic acid builds up in the muscles and this can cause soreness and fatigue. So, do we stretch before and after exercise or just after or just before? I always stretch after. It stands to reason that the muscles are warm after a workout and are therefore easier to stretch. Static post-workout stretches should ideally be held for up to 30 seconds. Relax into the stretch as you breathe out and avoid bouncing or ballistic stretching.
Stretching comes in many guises, has a range of health benefits and doesn’t have to be done just after working out.
MOVE YO’SELF
Our bodies are amazing aren’t they? I consider my body miraculous, especially when I acknowledge what it’s overcome and still endures since my diagnosis 13.5 years ago. It’s only been in the last few years that the effects of IV chemotherapy have taken their toll somewhat. I hate to admit it, but some days I feel physically and mentally exhausted, with fatigue and brain fog so severe, I can neither stand or think straight. Being a PT and someone who takes their health and well-being seriously, it’s a hard pill to swallow. A battle between mind and body where one is willing but the other isn’t. I sometimes feel like I’ve made a pact with the devil in order to stay alive.
The treatments are toxic, but thankfully my body is still relatively strong, and that’s because being fit and healthy has kept me in good stead.
Our bodies carry us all our lives. Yet, we easily take them for granted and quite often we forget what they’re capable of. It’s only when that ability is taken away that we fully appreciate their greatness.
On Fitness Friday, my message is simple. If you are fortunate enough to be free of illness and you’re not exercising regularly then shame on you. Seriously. You’re literally wasting the opportunity to preserve the health of both mind and body.
The good news is that it’s never too late. You can discover what your body is capable of at any age. Young or old - anyone and everyone can reap the benefits of exercise. Whatever you do, don’t wait to start that journey of discovery. Today’s as good a day as any. Be warned though, it can make you feel happy and confident. I mean, who would want that?
3 Reasons Why You Need an Online Fitness Community If you've been working out at home, you might've found that it can a get a little... lonely. That's why you should join an online fitness community!

On Fitness Friday, stretch to feel the release of that early morning tension in the muscles and stiffness in the joints. It’s so important for range of motion, flexibility, increased blood flow to the muscles and of course for the prevention of injury.
All this will help you function with ease - movements like lifting, pulling, bending, reaching, and twisting are paramount to mobility in our everyday lives. How much do you need to stretch? Twice daily would be the ideal - a gentle yoga stretch early morning and a more purposeful one during that afternoon slump will do amazing things for your energy levels too.
You don’t have to spend hours doing this - even a few minutes twice a day will yield delicious benefits. Post-workout stretches are a must, of course. The photos show a quadriceps stretch; perfect after a run, a brisk walk, a heavy leg session, or after being seated for long periods 😉
