Oxfam is offended by the 'F' word - Famine.
More than 28 million people across Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya and South Sudan are fighting for their lives. It’s the worst hunger crisis in living memory.
FAMINE = FAILURE
The crisis in East Africa has been caused by a deadly combination of climate change, conflict and the crippling cost of living. There has already been a huge loss of life, with millions of people now at risk of famine.
World leaders have failed to do enough to prevent this devastating crisis – despite making commitments to end global hunger. It is still possible to avert widespread famine if we act now.

HISTORICAL ARTIFACT FOUND -
Amongst a large donation of books we have found a hand-written Journal written in the 1st World War. The Journal named "Dad's log - HMS Picton 1914/18 War" relates to the Royal Navy vessel - HMS Sir Thomas Picton - that Lance Corporal F. H. Mason was travelling in. This is his journal. Lance Corporal F.H. Mason was awarded a Military Medal for gallantry on the fields at Gavielle but unfortunately didn't make it Back to receive his well-deserved medal. He now rests at Outtersteene Communal Cemetery Extension Bailleui, France.
Oxfam Evesham now have to consider where to send the journal for public-viewing. (Coughton Court or a Naval Museum to name a few.) If anyone is interested in the item, the history behind the item or where it should rest, please contact Lindsey Lavender, Shop Manager at - 01386 41009.
To commemorate the Queen's passing we will be closing our shop on the 19th of September.
CHILDREN'S COLOURING COMPETITION WINNERS
Over the school summer holiday, we offered a colouring competition for children aged 6 to 11 years. Our most recent winner, Mya, aged 7 from Evesham, won a signed copy of Teresa Davis' educational book, "Fiery Fox Learns About Fire Safety". Her picture was chosen because it stood out for the author as having additional elements added in to it - images of the moon and stars in the sky and a love heart above the family. Teresa the author (photo here) was very taken with this. Teresa has said that the other coloured pictures submitted, although not successful, could obtain a discount on her next book to be published soon called "Fiery Fox Learns Recycle, Reuse and Take Rubbish Home". To contact the author for this discount email - [email protected].
Before the school summer holidays, we also had another children's colouring competition running. This time the winner was Mia, aged 6 from Evesham who won a choice of book up to the value of £5. Here she is with her Mum and her prize.
Watch out for more competitions in the future including (advance notice being given here!) a design-your-own Christmas card - get practising now!

This month is the beginning of a very special campaign known as Second Hand September. This month is all about keeping old items (eg books/music) from being left at landfills and, instead, giving them a second life with a new owner. brings awareness to all the items that are thrown away and forever lost and also encourages customers to only purchase second hand goods for the month of September.
