Evesham Critical Mass

Evesham Critical Mass collects cyclists from around the Vale of Evesham to enjoy a sociable ride along the streets of the town as a group.

There is no leader and no planned route. Families and children very welcome.

Oof, no messing with that poster!

Hello hello, look what was spotted out in the wild today!

Some new signage for Evesham perhaps? Beat the traffic, get a bike!

Evesham may suck at cycle infrastructure but this new cycle track isn't to be sniffed at. Looks tasty.

Government to 'withhold money' as Worcestershire gets zero rating for active travel 07/10/2022

We knew Evesham was behind for active travel but this is just embarrassing. Time for a change of management at Wychavon and Worcestershire County Council.

Government to 'withhold money' as Worcestershire gets zero rating for active travel THE county council has been told it cannot be trusted to use extra government money for walking and cycling correctly.

Have you bid on a Vale Active Art bike yet? There are just a few hours left to bid on one of these amazing bikes with all proceeds supporting the Evesham Adventure Playground Association.

There were 3 'Mass-keteers out this morning who enjoyed a ride on the high street and investigating the 'flood' in Hampton. Hope to see more of you out in October. Remember it's the 1st Saturday every month at 10:15 from the Market Square. 🚲🚲🚲

True, so true.

Ah well, might as well fill up the roads with bikes then. Critical Mass rideout this Saturday morning...

04/08/2022

Are you Massing this Saturday? Have a quick read then.

To help get Critical Mass going in Evesham there has been at least 1 of the FB admin crew there to help lead and steer the mass. This upcoming rideout though, all admin are busy in other projects so the Critical Mass will be truly leader less, as it should be. If you turn up, take the bull by the horns and lead the pack! Also, take a little care with your routes as the Battle of Evesham is also happening and there may be a re-enactor or two matching through the streets. Take a few photos if you can and send them to us!

Ride safe

The Dutch Cycling Revolution 27/07/2022

Hold tight bike fans, the next Critical Mass ride is just over a week away. I think it's fair to say that we all have a bit of green eyes towards the Dutch when it comes to cycle infrastructure. It wasn't always a bicycle haven though. If you have a spare hour, and a cuppa then this video may interest you in to how the Dutch got from having very car-centric urban areas to getting to where they are today. Naturally, Wychavon & Worcestershire County Council, you get tagged in this post to help inspire you to do something other than just talk about improvements...

Hello bike fans! Firstly, an apology on the lack of content the past few weeks. Admin has had things to attend to recently. Secondly, the next Critical Mass ride is fast closing in. You may have noticed that Evesham is a very car-centric town with wide amounts of tarmac dedicated to roads and very little segregated/separated bicycle infrastructure. At some points in town even the footpaths get rather skinny. Holding a critical mass bicycle event gives us chance to reclaim a space on the roads solely for bicycles. It's a space where young and old, confident and nervous cyclists can ride in unison as a movement. It draws attention to bicycles on the road, reminds everyone that we're not causing traffic, we are traffic. The bigger the mass the more impact it has, maybe even as a statement to our local council to encourage a more inclusive transport network to be installed. Here is our problem though; it's the mass part. We need a mass of bicycles with riders to join in. The Mass rideouts have, at times been down to just three or four bikes. We need your help. As for Facebook please like, comment and share our posts to help to push the page out to more people. As for the rideouts, please attend! Come and be part of the mass. If you've been before then come again and if you have never attended then please come along!

See you soon...

Another quiet rideout with 4 in attendance, but welcome to another first timer! Only one miffed motorist beeped us this time but hey, they own a car, not the road! To make critical mass a reality we need bikes to turn up (with a rider, of course). Rain or shine, see you next time.

Want to tell Wychavon what you think about active travel in and around Evesham? Good news, you can with their new survey. Bonus that someone will get £50 for filling it in. Go on, tell 'em what you think!

If your bike needs a spot of tinkering with you best grab a cuppa on and get on with. Evesham Critical Mass is tomorrow morning. We swarm in the Market Square at 10am, come join the movement!

When your local authority makes positive noises about active travel then resurface a really wide road with no thought for separated infrastructure. C'mon Wychavon & Worcestershire County Council, even a painted bicycle gutter would be an improvement.

Next Critical Mass ride is this Saturday...

26/06/2022

Grab your nearest elected official and tell them we need a little more of this in Evesham. Are you listening Wychavon and Worcestershire County Council?

Next rideout is this coming Saturday, join the movement!

C'mon, cars don't own the roads. Let's gang up on them!

Sheffield: Hundreds take part in drum and bass mass bike ride 20/06/2022

If we can't persuade more people to join our Critical Mass ride then we may have to "employ" Dom Whiting to bring the numbers up! A great article to read.

Keep your eyes peeled for a dodgy looking individual with a new crochet hat...

STOLEN: Betty's Bonnet!
Unfortunately someone has run off with the beautiful crochet saddle cover that had been made for the bike decorated by St Mary's Primary School. Betty is installed at the top of the High Street outside A.F.Crooke Hairdressers and is now missing her blue, woollen bonnet.
We'd love to get this back as a huge amount of work had gone into making it and it completes the bike. Please share this post so that we can track it down and encourage the thief to return it to its rightful place.

New cycle track starting to take shape by the football club. Great to see, but will we get any ongoing cycle infrastructure from the site? Either way, it's another bike related win.

Next rideout is edging ever closer...

So what stage are you at?!

Photos from Evesham Critical Mass's post 04/06/2022

Another great Critical Mass rideout, this time taking in the sights of the decorated bikes as part of the Vale Active Art project. We didn't manage to get around all 27 of the bicycles but what we did see was fabulous. As always, a warm welcome to new riders who joined in the ride. If you didn't make it, the next ride is the first Saturday in July. Will we see you there?

07/05/2022

Thank you to all who turned up to the May rideout. A great mix of first timers and regular attendees! Now off you all go to enjoy the sunshine and the Food and Drink festival! Invites for the next few meetups coming soon. See you all on the first Saturday in June.
