The Union flag is being flown at half mast today as a mark of respect for the late Ed Cohen, Wychavon district councillor for Evesham South from 2019 to 2023, whose funeral takes place this morning.

As always, it's a privilege to be part of the VE Day commemorations at the war memorial

It's an honour to be at Worcester cathedral for the Lord Lieutenant's service to celebrate the coronation of the King.

Long to rain over us

It's a bit damp, but we're enjoying it.

I've just spoken to a reporter from Free Radio about the town's Coronation celebrations over the weekend. I don't know when they'll be using the recording, but if you hear it, let me know!

Anyway, one of the things I mentioned is that I hope things will run a bit more smoothly than they did in 1911 (the coronation of George V), when there was a riot because the Town Council decided not to provide free food for everyone at a celebration dinner. Here's a scan of part of the Evesham Journal archives from that year.

Great evening at the celebration of St George and the asparagus.

One of the things we discussed yesterday at the town council meeting was which flags we should fly on the council flagpole in front of the Almonry.

Normally, of course, it's the Union Flag, which is there all the time unless there's a specific reason to have a different flag. For example, the St George's Flag will be flown for St George's Day later this month, and we flew the Armed Forces flag for Armed Forces Day last year.

I'd be interested to know which flags, other than the Union Flag, you think we should fly on the flagpole when it's appropriate.
