The Joy of Clay
A showcase for my ceramics and pots as well as information about small group workshops in pottery starting in January 2020 near Exeter.
May have snuck away for a bit of autumn sunshine in beautiful
When you have to whip one of your own vases from your stock box to accommodate the garden's bounty! Dahlia splendour on a grey day.
After struggling to keep costs down in the early days with home made bats (rough and poorly fitting) trying to tap centre with very hit and miss results I've discovered certain things are indispensable in my studio. These include pre-drilled bats designed for my wheel and a Giffin Grip for centring even the trickiest shapes for turning. The damp box is hand made though and what a blessing in this weather!
So lucky to be showcased by Lympstone Seaglass Gallery - if you haven't visited it's a delightful gallery space near lovely walks, cafe and pubs for lunches. On the cycle trail and rail network.
The kiln of mixed blessings! Happily the requeted vase in the first photo came out at almost 22cms high so well within brief even after shrinkage. So tall I haven't worked out how to get it all in one Instagram image. New daisy pot is lpvely, jug prototype promising....but the rest aghhh! Kiln shefl grinding on the schedule.
No rude comments allowed but when you need a piece to be 8" or more and you're working in porcelain shrinkage means making it at least 20% bigger. My tallest yet but a ling way to go befire deeming it a success.
My Granddaughter, Grace spent hours making bespoke plant tags for her cactus and succulents. The middle is my favourite! You need to zoom in to see the detail.
Just a day off nearer to home this time. A walk from the Warren to the town and back in the sunshine after a spot of early lunch.
Thank you for finding new homes for these pots in just a few days! First image credit to Now to make some more.

Chuffed to be invited to include my ceramics in this second pop up with Lou. Lots of lovely ideas for the home or gifts to be found.
A weekend in sunny Saunton for our anniversary.

It's raining very heavily here, which is handy coz I have heaps of admin to do before I can tackle the commissions I have outstanding, and it stomps me being tempted to sit in the sun and play with yarn 🤣
All set up and ready for tomorrow with good weather forecast!
A colourful greeting this morning. Old fashioned flowers side by side - a happy accident.

In fact the link is above but I'm better with clay than social media! 🙃
So pleased to be attending this event for such a great cause. I'll be in great company too with and lots of other talented people.

Yesterday we had a day off in Teignmouth and were both struck by the way nature is colouring what was once an austere and totally manmade sea defence. Time and tide and all the things it brings with it made it look like an art installation.
Really looking forward to taking part in this event! Do come along if you're in the area :0)

Reusable porcelain plant tags. Glazed and impressed on one side - blank on the other to write what you've sown and when. Simply scrub or lightly sand when finished and reuse! Proving popular
A walk on Seaton beach before a flying visit to restock at - so glad the sun finally chose to come out to play! Happy Easter everyone ;0)
The light was so bright it wasn't ideal to photograph these pots fresh out of the kiln yesterday but they do look jolly!
Oh look what the postman brought. My first ever Instagram prize for coming up with a winning name idea in a competition! Thanks so much :0)
Words cannot describe how chuffed I am to have found these for sale at our AGM and to top it off we had the wonderful to give us a riveting talk about his work followed by a demonstration. And the sun shone - 'twas a good day!
I could never claim to be a production potter. My pace is steady and mindful but I am getting quicker. A case of having to 😄
The lovely Samaritans Gallery in Sidmouth is exhibiting and selling local makers work and for 6 weeks from this Wednesday 13th it includes some of my pots and some of Sean's paintings. A great way to support a really important service with a percentage from all sales supporting the Samaritans.
Chuffed with this new combination of glazes on a diddy little posy vase in porcelain.
I used to work a few doors up from this building in and always thought how beautiful it is. Today it really shone!
