REKO can connect you to the best local producers, meet them and buy directly from them. This will allow you to discover more about the food you eat, how it's produced and even see where it comes from. By pre-ordering your produce you also reduce food waste and unnecessary packaging, and help local producers know what you value.
Crispin here - I'll be at Mosshayne Lane Farm (courtyard) today (Good Fri 7 Apr) with a selection of bottles. A nice place to leisurely explore on a sunny day. πΆπ The farm shop has seasonal organic veg (Leeks, Savoys, Swedes, eggs at moment). There's also some garden plants and secondhand bits (vinyls, VHS, books) - proceeds to wildlife charity. π Cash only.
I have some mm108 apple rootstocks going spare if anybody interested? They're quite large, but could be grown-on to create a Family Tree on cut down to propagate from once established. - Crispin

We are excited to announce that Goffin REKO Farmers Market is back THIS FRIDAY at 5pm! You can now buy local produce directly from our market garden.
The concept is very simple: you turn up in the garden, collect your vegetables (if you have ordered any), and a series of (very!) local producers will be there to offer their amazing products right in the middle of Living Soil Garden.
You can also have a look at the garden itself, ask us any gardening questions and enjoy the landscape while having a nice time in the open air!
REKO is an innovative style of farmers market that originally came from Finland. Its aim is to connect you to the best local producers, so that you can meet them and buy directly from them. This allows you to discover more about the food you eat, how it's produced and see where it comes from. By pre-ordering your produce you also reduce food waste and unnecessary packaging, and help local producers know what you value.

Generally you do pruning when the trees are dormant (Jan/Feb) and grafting when the sap begins to rise (Mar/Apr). Then have a nice picnic when they come into blossom (May). This is some unconventional experimentation I'm doing in my garden. ππ³ https://youtu.be/GBq2V-nkFpw

100% PASTURE FED ORGANIC BEEF
We are now taking orders for our 100% Pasture-Fed & Organic Beef, available in 5Kg & 10kg boxes as well as individual cuts.
Our small beef herd is an off shoot from our dairy. We keep all of our bull calves who suckle their mothers alongside the heifers for the first 4 months. They are then given the freedom of the farm, left to lead a low -stress healthy life ranging our organic pastures and browsing the hedgerows, growing slowly over three years. We feel a great degree of pride in the quality of the meat and we are confident that it is extremely nutrient dense and delicious!

Rose will be back for the last time this year with a range of seasonal Sauerkraut. There will be
π§
π₯Golden Kraut, with turmeric, Ginger, carrot, onion and garlic
π Beetroot and cumin Kraut (perfect with red meat and cheese)
π PInk Kraut with apple & Ginger
In the crock right now (ready for January) is a Eastern European inspired kraut with a twist. It has red & white organic cabbages, onion, apple, grapefruit juice and caraway.
Apologies - kimchi is out of stock this week. Rose will be transforming local Savoy's into kimchi this week with Dario Cortese & Flavia Bigiarini's Mooli from Living Soil Garden. This will be ready in the New Year.
Please get in touch if you want delivery in Exeter in between January and when the REKO opens up again in Spring. Rose will be moving her production to a little kitchen unit in Exeter in January so she is happy to contimue to supply you over the winter period. Please get in by emailing Rose Whitehouse at: [email protected] or dropping her a DM.
Finally, Rose would like to thank all her regular customers at the Goffin REKO for their support and encouragement over the year. Thank you to John for initiating this market and letting us use the space and for Dario and Flavia for all their work setting up the markets each week. See you in Sping. Happy Solstice and New Year!
Hello folks! This Friday will be our last REKO market of 2021. Don't miss out on Living Soil Garden's last salad of the year, full of colour and flavour. There will also be Micro-greens, Leeks and much more!
Another Friday, another opportunity to taste some of the amazing sweets and savoury foods by Cat & Ed's Crudelights.
This week they are offering once again their selection of homemade Hummus and dips.
Classic hummus, red peppers hummus and rocket leaves dip.
Healthy and yummy.
At this time of year, Crispin waits, a little anxiously, for nature to perform it's magic and transform his pressed apples into something that will take the edge off. There are ways and means by which this may be encouraged, of course, and the traditional one, in these parts, is called a "Wassail!" Like the term "Cheers!" it is a well-wishing or thanksgiving toast, typically directed at the orchard, as in "Your Good Health!" π³π The offering is usually Mulled Cider (warmed with spices) - sometimes with literal toast or cake. It chases away the bad spirits that may settle upon those whom the cold and the storms and the dark nights affect. ππΊ
Ferments on offer this week:
π Beetroot & cumin kraut
πGolden kraut (turmeric & Ginger)
πPink kraut with ginger
π₯ Limited number of Curtido
πLacto Fermented Green Tomatoes
π₯Vegan kimchi (sorry traditional sold out)
This Friday Rose is also bringing along a limited number of KIMCHI kits to go along with the usual krauts.
Kimchi kits come with her own recipe/instructions and some of the more tricky ingredients to find when making kimchi (all contained in a 1L clip-top jar to ferment in). All the ingredients are measured out, so all you need to do is add your own vegetables and ow the instructions for easy kimchi. These are being sold for Β£15 and come boxed up to gift.
In other news....if you want to learn to make your own ferments picked straight from the field, then book on to Rose's last workshop for this year on Sunday 12th at Shillingford Organics. The ferments you make will be ready for Christmas. You will be provided with soup and hot drinks as well as gas heaters/fire to keep you warm in the field kitchen. Only 2 places left...

This week at Goffin REKO, Living Soil Garden will a limited quantity of Synergy Salad, Micro-greens and Mooli Radishes. You can book them on their website at livingsoilgarden.co.uk/vegetables
The Mooli (Daikon) Radish is long white crunchy vegetable, similar in appearance to fresh horseradish but packs a lighter peppery punch similar to watercress. Unlike other radishes, it is as good cooked as it is raw!
It's the turn of Pesto ! There is this strange Italian pudding that sends everyone scrambling. It's called "Panna Cotta" that means "cooked dairy cream", and its names explains pretty much everything. The dairy cream gets boiled and a vegetarian jelly added to make it feel more like a creme caramel in density. It receives a topping of strawberries and raspberries to balance the taste. The Chef needs some convincing because she is always very tight on schedule.
Today we will also have Cannoli and Tiramisu.
See you soon!
This Friday at the Goffin Reko Caterina and Edoardo's CruDelights will offer a selection of their Bliss Balls, their raw chocolate brownie and carrot cake, homemade traditional "Farinata", homemade rocket dip sauce, classic hummus and a newly created roasted red peppers hummus.
All food is strictly plant- based made from a selection of organic and non- organic ingredients for a tasty and healthy eating experience
Crispin's latest bottled juice is "Pitmaston"
"Some might be attracted to this particular apple by its reputation as being everything the supermarkets hate, being small, yellow and spotty yet with a fantastic taste!
It makes for a good garden tree with its moderately vigorous and upright growth pattern and the small fruit being ideal for children. The flesh is crisp, beneath a thick yellow skin with a russet of dots. Flavour is intense, being a sweet, sharp and slightly nutty character and as the name suggests with the slightest hint of pineapple."
We are pretty much at the end of the apple season now. Pitmaston is one of the later small/hard apples and will probably be my last bottled juice from this year. Illustrated below are some Foxwhelps that are another of the "hang on for grim death" types = you don't get much juice from them, but they do have a kick. π
This week at the Goffin REKO Rose will have some limitedstock of Golden Kraut again. It's been a while! Other flavours available will be a Beetroot & Cumin kraut, a Curtido (a Latin Amercian inspired Sauerkraut) and a Pink Kraut with Ginger, Carrot and Apple.
There will be a limited number of kimchi available, so please mention here on the post if you want one so she can reserve one aside for you. The kimchi was made using Living Soil's Chinese Leaf Cabbage and their own mooli.
In other news, Rose has been busy with workshops and would like to thank the Goffin customers for their support in attending these. She has really enjoyed engagaing with such inquistive minds and sharing the love of fermentation. Her last workshop for this year is going to be held at Shillingford Organics on the 12th December. Please get in touch with Rose if you want to make some ferments before Christmas!
Every Friday at 5pm on Goffin Land, Living Soil Garden customers collect their pre-ordered Veg Boxes and you can also find some extra produce on their stall!
See this Friday's event page here: https://fb.me/e/MRE8jrjB
Things are slowing down in the garden at this time of the season, but there is still Salad, Asian Greens, Fennel, lots of winter Squash, Leeks and more.
Even as we approach winter, the garden is almost entirely planted with crops or green manures; this prevents erosion and continues to convert sunlight into fertility, as well as storing carbon in the soil.
Dario and Flavia look forward to having a chat with you about their growing methods at REKO next week. If you want to learn more about No-Dig Gardening, you may check out LSG's courses at livingsoilgarden.co.uk/courses.
We look forward to seeing you this evening between 5 and 6pm at Goffin REKO.
