FREE: Exeter City Community Trust invites you to join them
at Saint James Park Grecian Centre every Wednesday from 6 pm sharp until 8 pm to participate in the EFL’s Fit Fans program... or as we know it Fit Grecians.
This is a FREE 12 week course examining nutrition, healthy eating, living a healthier lifestyle and how to make small changes which can have massive effects on your fitness. All this whilst meeting like-minded folk in a similar boat to you.
The course will look in-depth at most of the sections that are briefly touched on in your Man vs Fat guide with actual classroom presentations, activities and documents to help your weight loss.
Not only will you gain the expert knowledge of Ben (nutritionist and owner of Blueberry Nutrition) and Nick (physical education trainer); you will also be given practical demonstrations, fun tasty recipe ideas (that will be trialled at the sessions) and basic exercises you can do at home and in the classroom.
Just turn up this Wednesday at 6 pm (doors open at 5:30) to see if this program is for you.
Fit Grecians - Exeter City Community Trust Fit Fans returns to St James Park to support men aged 18-35 looking to lose weight, get fitter and lead a more active life.

As I no longer man this group and am not affiliated to Man v Fat anymore I have set this page for deletion. The deletion takes 30 days to take affect. As your previous coach I have all your best interests at heart and will always be here for any of you.
I am looking at forming a similar program to the one highlighted in this video to SUPPORT weight loss and mental health. I have been in contact with Gary Thorn (the gent featured in this video) and CALM (Caring). You are all welcome to join.
I’ll also add a shameless plug for the EFL Fit Fans program ran by ECCT, which is a free program that actually teaches men about nutrition, whilst promoting knowledge to aid weight loss. The next sessions start mid- January… I will post the date on this page before it deletes.
Have a great new year, stay safe!
Nothing like a cheeky new signing, just before the transfer deadline strikes!
What a great night last night at St James Park, where we held our Season 8 Awards ceremony. It was a nice Friday for the lads to socialize and have a few bevvies whilst celebrating the 432Kg's our lads shed in fat over the past 14 weeks (That's an average of around 5kg's each!). Shame the coach couldn't claim the same thing... lol.
We got to thank and celebrate Pete Ferlie's effort of putting together and running Man v Fat Exeter on behalf ECCT. Pete has left for pastures new and we wish him all the best on his new adventures!
ROLL OF HONOUR
** Members Player of the Season **
This was a very close affair from all nominated. However 2 lads just pipped the others to the post both sharing an equal number of votes. Well done to Chris Saunders and Andy Farrell; both of whom have achieved some great weight loss over the past year (including lockdown).
** Coach's Player of the Season **
I found this a really tough task as so many players have put in such a great effort this season, and all must take credit. I however went for the 2 players who turned up every week bar one, and always had the food tracking completed. These 2 lads also won their respective weight loss leagues (% and total weight loss). It was an honour to award this to Taylor Searle and Adam Webber.
** Top Scorer **
It was with great regret and annoyance that I had to award this to Justin Land, who managed to fluke top scorer in the weight loss points league and also top scorer on the pitch. Him and I also discussed another award which he should have won... He knows I love him really. Top work Justin! Man muscle not moobs lol!
***** Champions of Season 8 *****
Fatburn Rovers achieved their 5th title this season and it was rightly deserved! Winning both the combined and weight loss leagues. The lads managed to shed an amazing 83.2kg's between them. Great work lads!
As the coach for this season I'd also like to thank the support team I had on match days down at the Cliff Hill. My 2 player facilitators Rob Newell and Mark Cords (hashtag: BlameCords). Also to our new referee Graham Blackburn who even had the 'you know whats' to give a penalty against Bertie Cozic in a brief end of season friendly match. Also Tim Slade who has been our resident photographer this season and editor of our wonderful Newsletter each week!
Creedz won't forgive if I don't mention that FC Beercelona won the on pitch league, he also wont forgive me for opening the transfer market last week, only for a few of his players to go in search of teams new... Soz Mike!
Cheers to Exeter City FC for letting us use the Centrespot for our awards evening! I hope (for weights sake) we didn't drink the bar dry.
AND FINALLY thanks to all the members for contributing to the raffle in aid of Cancer Research, Chris Saunders will be adding this to his 'Race for life' total. A total of £158 will be donated to them (with a special mention to Cords who won the £50 and donated it back to Chris for the charity).
Man v Fat Exeter member, Christopher Truffle Shuffle Saunders is taking part in this event raising money for 'Cancer Research'. We will be helping him along by doing a raffle at our end of season raffle; however if you'd like to donate direct to him, please see his post.
Christopher's Race for Life 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
This Friday, local fitness and nutrition expert, and former Exeter City FC professional footballer; Bertie Cozic will be doing warm up sessions with all our guys!
Please use this taster session to ask Bertie any questions and see what he can offer in terms of fitness in his ‘Fit Camp Program’ which he holds as a 6-week program for just £30.
There is a one hour long session per week, working in a group with other MvF’ers and a few others concentrating on Cardio work. This is not a program where Bertie is going to make you walk or run loads, in fact quite the contrary! These sessions are fun and banter full events, which I’m sure you will all enjoy...
Although the main aim of Man v Fat is to lose weight. It’s great when some of our teams combine to play in an unofficial MVF tournament against other MVF teams around the country… and go and win the tournament!
Well done to all the players involved, we hope you had a great time…
Alas our entry to enter the Official National MVF tournament at St George’s wasn’t lucky enough to be picked, so we can’t show our weight-loss and tekkers off to the rest of the country.
It’s absolutely great to see some of the transformations some of our players go through! This is Peter Richardson, as you can see in his current picture (in the green polo shirt); he is doing an absolutely fabulous job of kicking those kilos in to touch! Top work Peter!
It was great to have the teams back in Exeter (obviously safely following Co-vid regulations) this Friday night.
Over the Lockdown period many of our over 90 participants struggled with weight loss; so we'd like to congratulate the 14 players that did manage to lose weight over this very stressful period. We have mentioned a few of the success stories already on Facebook (and will mention a few more in coming days). So the players per team that lost weight over the lockdown were as follows:
Atletico Kebab FC : 3 Players
Borussia Munchen Flapjack: 3 Players
Red Brevils: 3 Players
Aston Grilla: 2 Players
Fatalanta: 2 Players
FC Beercelona: 1 player
Fat Chiefs of Exeter: 0
Fatburn Rovers: 0
Who knows, maybe some bonus points coming your way?
Not all the stories are great at the mo; in fact most have struggled during lockdown. At my lowest weigh in, just over a year and a half ago, I had managed to get down to 96kg’s from 132kg at my heaviest. Today I weighed myself, I was back up to 124kg’s. The lockdown and a bout of depression has seen me taking my anxieties out on food... whatever I could shovel in to my mouth, it went in!
You have to be realistic, wise and correctly prepared mentally to lose weight, excuses may comfort you (along with the choc, biscuits, sweets, crisps, cakes, etc) but in the end the only person you’re letting down is yourself.
As I eluded to before, depression can play a very negative part in weight loss; and having been there myself I know it wasn’t easy to beat. When you are at your lowest, you punish yourself further for the weight gain... your feelings of failure can envelop you.
Now I don’t say all this just to upset people, in fact quite the opposite. Lockdown has played havoc with quite a few of our weights, and it is not just me (or you) that’s been affected; I know many of the Man V Fat lads are in the same boat... we are all in this boat together!
Yes there have been a few great stories in lockdown... Chris Saunders, Chris Cole, Justin Kerswell-King and James Mendoza to name a few. But far more have struggled.
With the lockdown slowly easing and Man v Fat football starting up again, it’s a great time to try and ‘reset’ your thinking for weight loss. Give yourself a few realistic goals, and do your best to reach them. The good ship MVF Exeter is here to help all!
Personally I’m aiming to get back down to the 100kg mark before Christmas (this means losing less than a kg a week). I have a few key objectives to helping me do this. I will start retracking my food intake (using MyFitnessPro); cut back on carbs and aim to achieve 10,000 steps a day... and generally getting in more exercise. I will see how this goes and reassess after a month or so.
So for those that have suffered during the lockdowns, you are NOT alone! It is OKAY not to be okay! Don’t be afraid to ask for HELP; be that weight loss wise, mental health or any other problems you may have. I know I speak for myself, Pete Ferlie and Mark Cordell when I say we are happy to listen.
So let’s get the new season under way, and make our (and each other’s) lives better.
TOGETHER WE CAN DO THIS!
Taz, coach at MvF
We only have 5 spaces left in the program which restarts on April 16th, here in Exeter... So if you (or any friends or family) want to start up on April 16th, they best be quick in applying.
We have over 80 participants in the Man V Fat program here in Exeter. Not many have managed to lose weight during this third lockdown; however another LOSER we need to congratulate is our very own drummer maestro, and Red Brevils striker, James ‘Animal’ Mendoza... he’s been doing loads of Zwifting to lose the kilo’s!
Top work James!!! Looking great!
We’d like to congratulate Chris S. from our league who has managed to lose almost 10% of his body weight this lockdown!
We know this lockdown has been hard both mentally and weight loss wise for many... so it’s nice to have a few positive stories coming through...
Great work Chris, looking forward to seeing you back at the sessions soon...
As we all know Man v Fat is a weight loss program. As such there has been questions about how the overall league points work.
As we all know, Man v Fat is a weight loss program and as such questions have been asked about the way the overall league is calculated. At present a 9-1 on pitch thrashing carries a +8 point advantage for that match in the overall league for the winning team. I am investigating how we could return the program to weight loss reward over on pitch reward.
One suggestion has been to allocate a 3-0 win to a winning / losing match (no matter what the ‘real’ score is) and a 1-1 draw to any drawn match. This would thus eliminate on pitch thrashings from having a major effect on the overall league.
Please feel free to add other options or opinions in the answer fields

Change the overall scoring so that winning teams are only allocated a 3-0 win, draws 1-1

No need to tamper, works fine as it is

A change is probably needed but not the system mentioned above.

So we now have a date to get the program back up and running... April 16th!!!!
We will start the ‘ball rolling’ with a Zoom meeting hosted by Pete Ferlie and Taz Greenaway at 7pm on Friday 26th March. Where we will be taking questions from both current and prospective members! Please do bear in mind that we may not have all the answers, but will endeavour to get answers post meeting.
So that makes it t-minus 27 days until the ‘sanitized’ footballs start rolling again.

Well happy with that 💪
Nearly a stone and half lost 🙌💪
GREAT WORK SCHOLESY! Anyone else scoring any personal bests recently?
MESSAGE FROM MAN V FAT HQ:
After months of waiting, the return of MAN v FAT Football is now appearing over the horizon!
Following the UK Government’s announcements around a return to normal life, MAN v FAT HQ have been busy working toward the return of your leagues across the UK.
We all know that the return of outdoor sports on March 29th is a provisional rather than confirmed date for now and, as with all the roadmap milestones, it is subject to a number of conditions being met. For this, and other logistical reasons, we have chosen to resume leagues in England from Monday 12th April and we can’t wait to get going.
Due to the number of leagues we now have across England, we will not be able to resume every league from the week commencing 12th April, but we will be relaunching as many leagues as swiftly as possible. Exact dates for your league’s return will be confirmed as soon as we are able.
The new ‘Friday on Foot’ challenge coming to the Exeter league this week!
As we gear up for the return to action, we are looking to get teams involved in walking / running each Friday (in place of Football) to see who can achieve the best distances, each week...
More info to follow over the next few days...
Although we can’t be playing football at the moment; there are still nationwide ‘incentives’ to keep the Exeter players active.
Obviously we have our ‘brother’ programme; the Man v Fat Challenge running nationwide... for more details of that please do message us and we’ll get our very own player facilitator and Challenge Guru, Mark Cords to give you the low down on that....
Also our MVF’ers are ‘virtually’ walking, running, crawling around the world in 80 days, the info graphic on this post gives an update on this.
Finally Hi to all the new members that have ‘signed up’ to join our Exeter league when it restarts (hopefully soon if safe)... please don’t be alarmed if you haven’t had anything official from us yet... the reason for this is because if I allocate new members to teams on the MVF computer; you will start getting charged... thus haven’t allocated ‘officially’ yet.
We do have a few spaces available on the program when it restarts...
So with the official MvF league suspended until January; we are looking what members would like to do; down at the training ground on Friday's.
So for the upcoming Friday (4th December) I would like to propose that we run a full 11-a-side friendly match as well as 6-a-side matches. Players will only be able to play in ONE match. The idea being that we will have a 30 min 6-a-side at 19.15; then a full 11-a-side match from 19.55 until 21.00 (2 halves of 30 mins); then another 6-a-side at 21.15. Players will have the choice of which match they play in. Obviously we will be applying all Covid restrictions and rules whilst conducting these sessions (this is why players can only play in one match).
Please post your thoughts below...
Lads, we all know that last lockdown brought home issues of fresh food and its availability from supermarkets etc... Dart Fresh are great at delivering REAL local fresh produce usually still very quickly. So fear not; don’t stock the freezer with processed foods when you can still have fresh delivered to your doors. We still haven’t seen the fine print for what the restrictions hold for our weekly football catch-up; but you can stay on track with your weight loss through eating fresh, healthy fruit, veg and meat!
