Italian Fennel. Often thought of as a vegetable, is actually an herb which belongs to the carrot family! We simply roast the bulb in olive oil, salt and pepper. We then add it to our take on an Italian caponata. In the deli today!

There's still lots of dandelions about at the moment. Just made this delicious dandelion jam. It's got a honey like flavour but with a jam consistency. A great vegan alternative to honey. Really simple to make. Next time you're out walking , pick lots of dandelion heads. You use the yellow flower petals only, put in a bowl and just cover with water and soak them overnight. Then put the liquid and petals in a pan and boil up for 10 minutes. Strain out the petals so just left with the liquid. Add sugar, pectin and some fresh lemon juice. Slowly boil until the liquid passes the wrinkle test. To test, spoon some liquid out and put on a cold plate, leave for a few minutes. You then move the liquid with the spoon and if if starts to feel a bit thicker and it wrinkles then i reckon it's ready to jar up! Put in sterilised jars and you have dandelion jam. Perfect on hot buttery toast in the morning.

Interesting Fact:

Did you know - the modern French for dandelion is “pissenlit”. It's not a coincidence that the word looks a lot like “piss en lit” (meaning “wet the bed”). This name is due to the dandelion leaves having diuretic qualities, and eating one might give you a good chance of wetting the bed later on!

NEW SALAD ALERT! After our recent Italian experience, we have come up with another delicious salad for you guys to enjoy! Roasted fennel and tomato salad with a harissa dressing. This salad is based on the Sicilian Caponata with a little Bon Gout twist. We think you'll like it. Amazing on its own or with some crusty bread on the side. We also like frying up some houloumi, chopping it up and putting it through the salad. So good!

Vacherin Mont d’Or is only made between the 15th August and 15th March, when the cows have come down the mountain from their high summer pastures making it a truly seasonal cheese.

Washed for about three weeks, Vacherin Mont d’Or is then wrapped in spruce bark. The cheese is aged for a further two to three weeks. It has a rich and velvety flavour , with a hint of spruce from the bark that is wrapped around it.

You can bake the cheese in the oven to create an instant fondue or simply cut the top of it off and spoon it out and enjoy its velvety rich flavour.

We sell the individual boxed vacherin or we do a slicing vacherin to enjoy with your favourite cheese board.

A golden blonde, biscoff billionaires slice. One of the great things about having your own place and making cakes, slices and tray bakes is that every now and again you get time to experiment and make up new recipes for you lovely people to taste! This has been a work in progress for the last few months with tweaking the recipe here and tweakijg it there and finally, I am so proud of this little number! A delicious biscoff buttery biscuit base, gooey moreish handmade caramel centre and topped with a smooth golden blonde chocolate. Golden blonde chocolate is basically just a caramelized good quality white chocolate (30% cocoa solids) that you cook slowly in the oven or on a low heat on the stove until it's toasted golden brown and smells nutty and caramelized. It tastes a bit like a Caramac chocolate but so much better and creamier.I have a sweet tooth and this biscoff slice ticks all the boxes for me! I hope you like it ?!

Another hot day in the kitchen! I wanted you all to meet the Team that work behind the scenes of Bon Gout. You all know the amazing team members in the deli that tirelessly serve you everyday with brilliant customer service and always a smile. They are incredible people who we couldnt run Bon Gout Delicatessen without. When it comes to the kitchen team, there is one particular member that works so hard to make all the food you all enjoy eating. She is my business partner, life partner and my best friend. She still gets a real buzz and enjoyment knowing that you amazing loyal customers enjoy eating the delicious food that she produces day after day. It's hard to believe that we have been running the deli for over 22 years now! We are both still smiling which is nice. Sure, we have tougher days but the great days far out weigh the harder ones and we always get through it together. Thankyou Nicola for all your delicious food, hard work and support.Thankyou you too deli team and of course, a big thankyou to our customers! We will continue to produce the food we know and love and hope you will continue enjoying it!

It's national picnic week! Come and celebrate it some Bon Gout treats. Lots of handmade delicious nibbly food perfect for picnics. The guest salad this week in the deli. We've simply named it the 'Sunshine Salad'. Full of flavour, texture and yummyness! Slow roasted tomatoes, butterbeans, peppers, roasted butternut squash with fresh parsley and thyme in a chilli and lemon dressing.

Reblochon de Savoie AOP. Rebochon is one of the tastiest cheeses of France. It’s made in the mountains of the Haute Savoie from cows milk. Perfect for winter dishes such as the classic “Tartiflette”, a delicious baked potao gratin with delicious melty cheese and crispy bacon.. Alone, Reblochon can be matched with many bread varieties and goes well with the wine of Savoie. It’s also very nice with nuts or dried fruits like fig, raisin or apricot. Bake it whole in the oven and share with friends with bread and crudités - an amazing tasty melty dipping cheese!
