Masia Parera Cava Rosado is a raspberry filled bottle of fizzy fruitiness. Pale cherry pink with a nose of summer berries with a lovely mineral streak, a frothy mousse, a long finish and great balance of fruit and acidity. Delicious.

Tasted with Belinda Jackson last week, Lawson's Dry Hills Chardonnay offers enticing aromas of lemon and peach with a light smokiness. Lovely concentration of fruit is enhanced by the French oak characters of vanilla and the extended lees contact adds toasted brioche and savoury flavours to the palate. An elegant, full-flavoured wine with a lovely, long finish.

We were delighted to welcome Belinda Jackson from Lawson's Dry Hills, Marlborough, and Max Sichel from Maison Sichel in Bordeaux, to present their wines yesterday afternoon at Topsham Brewery Taproom. First of all, what a great venue ! If you're looking for a central space for an event then do give them a ring.

Belinda showed five wines from Lawson's Dry Hills, including their Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay (New Zealand International Wine Show 2023 – Gold medal (double gold), National Wine Awards Aotearoa New Zealand 2023 – Gold medal) Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir.

A dedicated bunch of 18 make up the small team here, who get stuck into making the very best wines possible and Belinda, an established author on NZ wine (including "Celebrate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc) has been with the winery for the last 10 years. Their wines are superb and we thoroughly recommend them as a true representation of the terroir, with elegance and vibrancy, and you can find the link below to try for yourself.
Not only did they win the Excellence in Sustainability Award at the New Zealand International Business Awards at the end of last year, but they are currently the only New Zealand wine producer to hold both ISO14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO14064 (carbonzero) accreditations.

Max Sichel and his colleague Jake also showed five wines. Chateau Argadens Blanc, Domaine Cassagnau, Domaine Peter Sichel 2019, La Dame d'Angludet 2019 and Sichel Sauternes 2020. One charming customer remarked that the Sauternes was the heavenly nectar of the Gods that he would drink just before he died. It had everything that he had looked for in a Sauternes. All the wines told a story, from Max's own try at winemaking (never released for sale) to the commemorative wine for his grandfather and the name we can never use to really say where the Sauternes comes from....

Wine of the Week by Julia Harding MW on Jancis Robinson's website was the Lyrarakis Liatiko from the island of Crete. Visited in 2002 by Her Majesty The Queen, this winery was established by brothers Manolis and Sotiris in 1966 and is now run by Bart Lyrarakis, CEO, one of five members of the second generation.

The Lyrarakis estate has a strong focus on rare local varieties, single variety and single vineyard wines. The family is credited with the revival of two ancient Cretan varieties, Dafni and Plyto.

In charge of winemaking is Myriam Ambuzer who has been vital in securing Lyrarakis a place in the elite wineries of Greece. Her philosophy emphasises precision, purity and supple texture of the fruit. She argues it is all about expressing authenticity, achieving harmony and that every variety needs to be worked in its own special way.

Muscadet Bretonniere is a surprisingly rich and fruity Loire white with hyper-fresh floral aromas and the Cava Rosado is a gorgeous glass (or two) of pink summer berry fruitiness with a frothy redcurrant mousse, delicious. Mount Vernon Sauvignon is a new wine to CPW, full of tropical fruitiness and a classic herbiness on the palate. Brouilly Creigne is deep-coloured, fleshy and unctuous, with fine tannins and a distinctive black fruit overlay, finishing with a zippy, refreshing acidity.
