Topsham Adventure Centre (TAC) is a charity with the exciting challenge of building and managing a new base for 1st Topsham Sea Scouts & the community including Community Equality Disability Action (CEDA- charity number 1096528)
We are really looking forward to being in attendance at the Topsham Sailing Club summer fundraiser tomorrow, Sunday 11th June. Come and see us between 1pm and 3pm.
We have had a great day with CEDA today at the Pop Up gallery space in Exeter City Centre today. Thanks to Craig for hosting us and to Topsham Adventure Centre Trustees Mark and Joy. See you again next week!
Today at the SeeMe Hear Me pop up exhibition we have members from the Topsham Adventure Centre talking about this exciting new joint project with CEDA. Come along and find out more today or through their page.
We felt privileged to be nestled alongside some amazing Topsham community group Christmas Tree Festival entries with our Sea Scouts and Topsham Adventure Centre tree. Ours is so full of personality with dozens of hand painted decorations by our Scouts. Do go along to St Nicholas Methodist Church before Sunday evening and browse some very creative trees. Our just-about-favourites were Topsham Film Society and ELF crafting group
We are delighted to be joining in the rather special Topsham Christmas Tree festival this year, alongside our friends at 1st Topsham Sea Scouts. Tinsel, lights and some rather brilliant Scout crafted decorations at the ready. Yay!
Wonderful creative work by our partners CEDA ahead of the first ever Exeter Carnival this evening. Once again CEDA providing wonderful opportunities for the young people it tirelessly supports. We hope everyone enjoys it!
The case is building nationally for much better support for young people and their mental health. At last!
At Topsham Adventure Centre we wholeheartedly agree with the Children's Commissioner when she says "England’s children take their mental health and wellbeing really seriously, Though, concerningly if not surprisingly, 1 in 5 were worried about their mental health. More children are struggling with their
mental health since the pandemic and at an earlier age given the effects of
lockdown...We need to act before issues escalate."
We are pleased that The Children’s Commissioner has therefore made improving children’s mental health one of her top priorities, and one of the six ambitions in the latest report sits perfectly alongside the vision of Topsham Adventure Centre;
Ambition 3. All children have plentiful access to safe and fun spaces to play
with their friends.
We continue to work hard in our efforts to fundraise and build a state-of-the-art community centre that will enable young people of all ages and abilities to make friends, learn new skills and enjoy activities on land and on water.
Well done! Great work by CEDA and the amazing young people they support. The sunshine thought so too and came out to help.
Team CEDA are collecting today Exeter Chiefs Official with the Exeter Chiefs Foundation … GO CHIEFS!
As we continue to apply to a wide range of funding sources, we are delighted to share some great news! Topsham Adventure Centre has been awarded a significant grant by the Claire Milne Trust. Thank you CMT, it means so much, it is a great boost to our funding total. A giant stride forward in our aim to build an Adventure Centre at the heart of our Topsham community for our disabled residents and young people.

Topsham Adventure Centre (TAC) is following in the footsteps of the wonderful community volunteers back in 1962, who built the Topsham Scout Hut from a decommissioned Pre-WW2 Mess Hut. Fastforward 60 years and TAC is seeking to build a space for 1st Topsham Sea Scouts & CEDA to support the next generation of Sea Scouts and CEDA charity users. Be part of our endeavour and donate at http://www.topshamadventurecentre.org.uk/donate Thankyou.
During National Volunteer Week, we would like to say a huge thankyou to all our Topsham Adventure Centre Trustees and supporters, all of whom are volunteers, dedicated to building Topsham Adventure Centre. Thanks very much Angus, Gill, Fiona, Laura, Mark, Nick & Tracy for your hard work and determination. Many thanks to Steve & Joy who work alongside Trustee Board representing CEDA and 1st Topsham Sea Scouts.

Day 10 is here! Whoop! The last stage for Joao as he completes his JOGLE in 10 days Challenge. 173km to go. Good luck!
JOGLE Challenge. Devon & Exeter Day! Not only has our TAC funding superhero João done hundreds and hundreds of miles in 9 days, he was ahead of schedule getting to Exeter today. I expect it was the thought of seeing his family that boosted tired legs. Every pound raised takes us closer to the opening of Topsham Adventure Centre for 1st Topsham Sea Scouts and CEDA service users. Transformational for young people in our community. Safe onward journey to Lands End, take care.

Such inspirational thinking from our TAC fundraising superstar as he edges closer and closer to Lands End. Fingers crossed for 1 dry day at least!
Its Day 8 of João's cycle ride. Not long now João! With Land's End (nearly) in sight we thought we would share the last in our series of pre-event questions that helped us understand João's motivations for raising money for Topsham Adventure Centre, the new home for 1st Topsham Sea Scouts. Just before he set of, we asked him "As a Beavers section leader you will regularly see the difference Topsham Sea Scouts makes to its members. What might some of these might be?
“So, I think there are 2 ways to look at this. 1st one is the impact on the Scouts themselves, of course the young scouts, the beavers or cubs, as well as the leaders, even parents and carers. I think that all beavers really enjoy coming to the session, usually they always feel they will have some fun, they will learn something new. It's also an opportunity to meet other Beavers that they might not know, simply because they go to different schools. The feedback that I get, not just from the beavers but also from parents is good so they always enjoy beavers. When they start they are really shy, they don't talk too much, sometimes they struggle and be afraid of participating in some activities and it is nice to see that they really progress fast and that they can actually enjoy and have fun. On the other side, the community side, of course it's nice to see, especially when we do some sort of fundraising event or participate in things like the annual parade, that people really support Scouts. It is always nice when adults come to us and say, ‘by the way I used to be a Scout a few decades ago . I am really happy that you keep doing this for the young Scouts as well as the local community.’ It is nice to see that everytime we do something for the community we always get great feedback and people are extremely happy to support us."

As day 6 comes around of João's amazing cycle ride to raise funds for Topsham Adventure Centre, we would love to share more with you about why João thinks a new building for the 1st Topsham Sea Scouts is desperately needed. In our pre-event interview with João we asked our fundraising superstar... "What difference do you think the new building that you are fundraising will make to Topsham Sea Scouts?
“Well as everyone knows, a few years ago the building that the Scouts were using at the time was almost devastated by the storm and the floods that hit this part of the country. We never stopped running Scouts but of course the conditions we have at the moment are not the best. So we need to rely on spaces we can find and to be honest, especially this year I am with the Beavers Group, and Topsham Library is being really awesome with us, they have provided us the best space we could find in the library but it would be good if we could have our own home where we could meet with the Scouts every single week of the year when we don’t need to worry too much about the weather, if it's raining or not. On top of that, because the building would not be used exclusively by Scouts, it will also be extremely important for the local community, especially for those that have special needs. From what I know of the new building there will be plenty of space for everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy, learn new skills and hopefully the community will be happy with that.”
Good luck on Day 6 João!

177km in 1 day. Wow.
As João embarks on Day 4 of his amazing cycle ride to raise funds for Topsham Adventure Centre, we would love to share with you some of what is motivating him. In our pre-event interview with him (Thanks Joana!) we asked our fundraising superstar... "It's a really wonderful thing that you are embarking on João, what is motivating you to do your JOGLE cycle?"
“First of all I think it is about the challenge, it's quite a long distance. It is not so much about the distance per day because I am used to riding those types of distances. Of course, you will do those sorts of distances every single day with a bit of extra weight. On the other hand, it will also be nice to have the opportunity to see other places, especially Scotland and the North of England, places I have never been before. Of course I will always be pedaling so I won’t have time to visit or stop that much. Hopefully, if I arrive early each day, I am thinking about 4pm or 5pm I might have a couple of hours to have a look. It's also about helping the Scouts, this was not the first objective because initially I just wanted to do this for me, something I would like to try, but of course I have the opportunity to join up those 2 pieces so for me the extra challenge was to try and raise some money for Topsham Adventure Centre”.
