Dusky are London born production/DJ duo Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman. Initially gaining recognition during the UK’s 2011 house renaissance, Dusky have since established a diverse, inimitable sound that draws on everything from hardcore and Detroit techno to ambient, progressive house, jazz, and other more experimental musical forms.

With a string of releases on their own 17 Steps imprint that earned support across BBC Radio 1 and publications such as RA and Mixmag, With more 17 Steps and Running Back releases on the horizon Dusky’s reputation as one of the benchmark acts on the UK underground scene is well established and deserved.

The enigmatic and elusive Skin On Skin is one of the hottest properties in electronic music right now.

After playing must-see sets across Australia, his bone shaking debut EP dropped in early 2019 via iconic Newcastle label Steel City Dance Discs. The opening track and lead single, ‘Multiply’, became an instant classic across the UK long before its official release.

This year though has seen his star shine more brightly off the back of one of the most talked about Boiler Room sets all year- combining Techno with Drill, SOS has tapped into something that no one saw coming, a synergy that feels both natural and compelling.

Today we’re reviewing Daniel Avery’s latest LP “Together in Static” released in 2021 which we really love! 🖤
Together In Static is beautifully composed and thought out as a whole, with slow mo beats, powerful synth tones and a sombre but cosy mood. Most tracks seem to blend into each other, making the album an immersive, engulfing listen that feels like a big embrace – which we needed after living so long in the Covid era. The LP has a strong nostalgic feel to it, almost reminding us of times when the internet wasn’t so big and the digital world, as it is today, was still far away. “Nowhere Sound” is reminiscent of early Aphex Twins or Boards of Canada, with beautiful synth lines, whereas tracks like “Endless Hours” and “Yesterday Faded” remind us of a late morning rave, when the sun starts to shine on dancers.
Even at its hardest, Together in Static feels warm and contemplative. Have a listen and immerse yourself into this collection of evocative slow ambient techno that just feels so good and welcoming. Enjoy and be ready to dance to some of these tunes on the 4th of February when Avery comes to Move again.
