In the UK alone, half of single-use vapes are thrown in the bin - that’s over 5 million per week 😨

Binned vapes are part of the fastest growing sources of waste in the UK: electrical waste.

Anything with a plug, battery or cable can be recycled, so make sure you never bin your vapes. Recycle ALL your vapes separately from your household waste and recycling ✅

Vapes can be recycled at our household recycling centres, or you can take them back to shops that sell them who have a legal duty to recycle them! 😁

Visit recycleyourelectricals.org.uk to find other recycling points near you.

Congratulations to Stephen Dickson - who is £100 better off after winning Falkirk Council x LitterLotto's June prize!

Stephen turned trash into cash by downloading the free LitterLotto app & submitting a photos of himself binning litter to enter the monthly prize draw!

When asked what he would say to anyone who hasn't used LitterLotto yet, Stephen replied "Give it a go! I used to get stressed and annoyed about the litter - cos it’s everywhere. I changed my attitude when I realised I can do something about it. Action is better than stressing. And then when I found LitterLotto it added a little extra with a bit of fun!"

If you haven’t already, download the LitterLotto app now to be in with a chance to win this month’s £100 prize!

⚠️🔋 Swollen Lithium Batteries 🔋⚠️

Lithium batteries are rechargeable batteries often used in electrical items such as mobile phones, vapes, tablets, and laptops. Sometimes when lithium batteries are damaged, they can swell and bulge 😟

Why is this important? Swollen lithium batteries are a fire risk and it’s important they are disposed responsibly. If you have a swollen lithium battery, do not put it in your household recycling and waste containers ❌

Take these to our Roughmute or Kinneil Kerse recycling centres where you will find specialist containers located by the meet and greet huts at the entrance to the sites ✅ If you have any questions, our recycling centre staff will more than happy to help! 😁

Fly tippers face on the spot fines of up to £500 and can end up with a criminal conviction which would mean increased fines of up to £40,000! Householders can also be held liable if there is evidence linking you to the waste! ❌

Follow these top tips when you are looking to pay to get your waste disposed to ensure this doesn't happen to you 👍

1. Ask to see a SEPA issued Waste Carriers license

To check if your waste carrier is SEPA registered visit https://www2.sepa.org.uk/wastecarriers/

We have undertaken a litter pick, made posters and last week made dog bag dispensers to put up in the local community to help tackle the issue 🥳

A fantastic campaign by these incredible pupil's! 😁

In the UK alone, half of single-use vapes are thrown in the bin - that’s over 5 million per week 🤯

Did you know vapes contain batteries hidden within them? When single-use or rechargeable vapes are binned or incorrectly disposed of, they can get crushed or damaged in bin lorries and recycling centres and start fires 🔥

By law, all retailers who sell vapes must now provide a recycling facility for consumers to bring back used or unwanted vapes! You can also take these to our Kinneil & Roughmute recycling centres! 👍

Make sure you are disposing of your vapes correctly and safely ✅

Visit recycleyourelectricals.org.uk to find other recycling points near you.
