Cost of Living Grant | Asda Foundation 11/09/2024

Tonight we discussed the possibility of our groups seeking funding requests to help with the cost of rent. This is a fabulous grant which might apply. (Please check the eligibility first)

If not, why not contact the community champions at your local supermarket and ask what they can do for you.

Did you know Asda sent us Pudsy the bear to visit our Playgroup one year?

Cost of Living Grant | Asda Foundation Supporting grassroots community groups to respond to challenges caused by the rise in cost-of-living.

Good Evening Everyone....
To avoid any confusion, it appears rumours are circulating within the community about the future of Greenpark Community Centre.

The centre WILL continue to operate after the intended handover on 1st October 2024 to Polmont Community Hub who are working tirelessly to continue to grow and protect this valuable and essential local asset.
Meanwhile, the Greenpark management centre committee will be disbanding and closing as of 30th September 2024. We thank everyone on this team over the years for all their hard work and dedication and hope they will all come back to join a group and enjoy their well deserved time off.

We have received lots of help and support from Community Council Polmont who we are sure will continue to support the Hub now and in the future in any way they can and will be providing us with a letter of support as part of our submission.
We would encourage individuals and groups to continue using the centre as normal and if possible provide the Hub with further letters of support via [email protected]

All our groups are encouraged to have a representative attending our meetings to keep up to date, however, if you are not getting our emails, please get in touch as we don’t have your details. We will be ramping up our efforts to talk to all our groups in the coming weeks now our business plan is nearing completion. Look out for us around the centre or get in touch via email.

Thank you to everyone for their patience and support while we have been navigating the unknown. We thank everyone who is able to provide a letter of support in advance...

Yet another busy day for our small committee ⏰ the fact finding and fund hunting 🤔 was in Grangemouth today 🪴♻️ a tour of kersiebank followed by a funders education at the bowhouse, more work for us to do but - some great knowledge and networking done ✔️ tomorrow will be a busy day at the hub, the sustainability manager has a plan to get us more volunteers 🤔? PCHub needs you 🫵

Photos from Polmont Community Hub's post 30/07/2024

Our social media may have been quiet 🤐 but we - and our friends and have been very busy ⏰ it’s been all hands on deck all round town with the Polmont planters 🪴 super well done the toons - looking blooming (pun intended) loverly 🌻 the hub sub committee had a meeting last night it’s a crucial time just now (more updates on that very soon) 🛎️also we have been working hard on our web page, and communications equipment, a small trial event is still planned for Thursday, ticketing for it will not be ready on time

We had a fact finding mission to our neighbours in Linlithgow last week ✍️ our sustainability volunteer spoke with Lee Dolby at Linlithgow trust - Lee is the community development manager, we spoke about - circular economy 🤔 this is another name for his role at the trust 🥸 they have 8 people employed at the trust 👍 three of these people are employed in the circular economy departments 😱 part of which is the tool library, we have one member keen to start a tool library at PCH 🛠️🪚⚒️ there’s plenty space to get started on this community project, we just need another volunteer to help set it up 🤔 (he doesn’t want to do it alone and he isn’t looking for work) 🤔

We are busy with the transition to community ownership planning 📈 but last night - the planning officer with the project manager took an evening of working on the business plan 🤔 (or did they?)because last night at PCHub, the event/hub manager and the entertainments officer! 🎥 helped a local adventurer trial the lesser hall for an inspirational talk evening 🎙️ this was a success what a brilliant venue for community films and talks 🤩🎥 the lesser hall can very comfortably sit 60 🪑 the hubs publicity promoter thinks it would be a great way of raising funds and community engagement 🗣️ but more importantly bring us some well needed volunteers 🙏 we have a confession to make 😔 all those people previously mentioned are our sustainability officer kenny 😳 if our charity is to become a sustainable business 💪we need more volunteers , the only person helping kenny last night was the communications engineer 💻 an absolute diamond geezer 🤩 he is puting lots of voluntary work into our website, and; last night was looking into our office management and WiFi possibilities/potential 🤔 yet another project we need to start work on, maybe we can work out a ticketing or booking system for a talk! Q&A session by next week! Watch this space 🎥🎙️🎟️

PCHub was very busy with religious meetings this morning ⛪️ the car park was full and there was children playing in the grass, it was a beautiful morning 🌞 we were thinking wouldn’t it be wonderful 💚to create an outdoor meeting area 🤔 we have the perfect spot along this section of fencing that needs redone, ✅ we can utilise it for meetings and events 👏 a swift look online showed- wonderful set ups at other community hubs 🪴the friendly bench company do excellent bespoke planter community benches 🪴 would Brae’s friendly growers (the BFG’s ) be interested in progressing this project? Or the Polmont planters?

Photos from Polmont Community Hub's post 19/07/2024

Today our sustainability manager booked himself on three different Eventbrite 🤔 wait for it - events 😂 while doing so on the ticketing/booking platform he realised - we need to start moving towards getting PCHub on that platform 🤔 we can’t sustain an events business - if people cant book onto events! His personal phone and email address is already overcrowded with hub business though! 🤔 it’s time us volunteers got SIM cards registered for the roles we do 👍 he’s all about ethics and being environmentally friendly 💚 ethical shopper showed the top three were - honest mobile which is B-corp but no deals for charities 😢 eco talk again no deal for charities! Vodafone (number 2on the ethical chart the others were joint first) have a great deal for charities- Free! A command decision was taken by him to apply!

There was some discussion this week around our social media direction. 🤔 should it be solely about the hub? 🤷‍♂️ or some content about the community? 🤷‍♂️ either or nether ! 🤔 neither is what won for nearly a week 😔 one of the hubs running community took these snaps 🏃‍♂️📸 sadly cadgers brae is becoming part of our communities history 😱 the outdoor kids play area is gone 😢 it looks like the soft play area is still there, for now

Photos from Polmont Community Hub's post 11/07/2024

We had an enquiry from a local adventurer this week! He wondered if he could do an inspirational (he hoped) talk &presentation with a Q&A session afterwards at the hub 🤔 we did have a query about starting a community film group 🎥 for that we checked the lesser hall 👍 it’s doable 🎬 there’s a screen and plenty seating 🤩 our events organiser has not organised an event before 🤔 well not at the hub 😂 it’s been checked as free and this time next week ⏰he said we could have a practice run of a wee film event from this adventurer 😱 also there’s progress on our tool library project more on that soon ⏰

We have a couple of active sustainable travel enthusiasts 🏃‍♂️‍➡️at the centre/hub🚴‍♂️ today they had an organised running cultural heritage tour from PCH to Linlithgow 🏃‍♂️‍➡️ it was one mile to the roundabout where the 500 home gilston development is going to be built🏠 then up onto the canal 🚣‍♀️🛶to run past haining/almond castle 🏰 at whitecross where another construction company are building 400 homes 🏠 (both companies pledged to upgrade lathallan roundabout for increased car usage) 🚙 surely we could develop a traffic free route between? There’s plenty scope for it 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🚶‍♂️🌳 it was 5km 3mile to muiravonside country park 💚 and the Avon aqueduct 💚 (the river Avon is the border between polmont and Linlithgow) there was a poster for green battle Linlithgow here 🐝 a biodiversity loss campaign 🌱 they the ran past the amazing new Linlithgow cycle track 🚴‍♂️ near the Cala homes Preston glade development 🤔🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ active travel routes promised here also 👍 finally it was 10km to the heart of lithgy high street (the chip shop 🤔? Or 4marys? 😂 ) then train home to polmont on ScotRails ace service 🚉 💚 an excellent informative fun day out for all

This picture may look like a couple of mates enjoying a pint at their local 🍺 but it’s actually our hub chairman and IT guru 💻 working hard on the hub website (coming along nicely) these hard working chaps deserve those refreshments 🍻

A local supporter of PCHub 👏 asked our project manager if he would be interested is starting - a book club at the hub (poetic) she had books and a shelf/case she could donate 🙏 we obviously would be delighted to have a new club/group/community usage of our space 👍 there’s already book shelves in the coffee lounge ☕️📚donated by polmont rotary club ♻️ quirkily called -rotating books 📚 we would be delighted to grow these initiatives 🙏 calling all Braes bookworms/reading community - do you think we could make this work?

Busy day today for the PCHub (perhaps a poll on shortening our handle could be fun) volunteers ⏰ the 3-j’s &K had a 2hr meeting with CVS 🤔 it was a business plan meeting with Falkirk’s Community volunteers services (CVS)🙏 they have been and continue to be really great with us 👍 it was a very busy meeting, one new aspect raised - was could we ask CVS to add us to their volunteer opportunities list 🙏 as we need more volunteers
