In Dorset, many people are unaware that they have high blood pressure, which rarely has noticeable symptoms. But if untreated, it increases your risk of serious problems such as heart attacks and strokes.

The only way to find out if your blood pressure (also called hypertension) is high is to have your blood pressure checked. The good news is that high blood pressure can be prevented and treated. That’s why it’s really important to get yours tested!

Once you have checked your blood pressure, you can check out what the results might mean for you by using the NHS blood pressure checker: www.nhs.uk/health-assessment-tools/check-your-blood-pressure-reading

RSV is a major respiratory virus, common over the winter period, typically November to February. While it is mild for many, it is responsible for around 20,000 babies being admitted to hospital, in the UK annually, with a condition that causes inflammation in the lung, called bronchiolitis.

The UK is the first country in the world to offer a national vaccination programme that uses the same vaccine to protect both infants and older adults from RSV.

Pregnant women at week 28 or later and everyone aged 75 to 79 or turning 75 years old on or after the 1 September will be offered a vaccine to protect themselves or their babies against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

We all want to make the most of the sun (when its out!) but remember to stay hydrated and reduce physical activity during the hottest parts of the day. Heat exhaustion does not usually need emergency medical help if you can cool down within 30 minutes. If it turns into heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency.

MEASLES is an infection that spreads very easily and can cause serious problems in some people. It is spread when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. You’re infectious from when you first have symptoms (around 4 days before the rash appears) until 4 days after you get the rash.

Having the MMR vaccine is the best way to prevent it. It also protects you from mumps and rubella. The MMR vaccine is offered to all children in the UK. 2 doses can give lifelong protection against measles, mumps, and rubella. Please contact the surgery if you think you or your child could have measles.

See the NHS website for more information: www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/
